I want to start out by saying that I am really scared and concerned about what is going to happen with my PEB. I will give a little background.

I have almost 3 years AD in the Navy (3 yrs on 31July09)

I am a frocked Sonar Tech 2nd class but have not been officially promoted (ie. paid) to E-5. I will probably be paid in June or July.

I found out I have degenerative disk disease at the L4-L5 and L5-S1 levels half way through A-school in 2007. I was placed LIMDU while in school and went through physical therapy. Got off LIMDU before graduation and passed sea duty screening.

I spent 6 months onboard ship before my back started acting up again and had to be pulled off.

I am now on my third med board/LIMDU and have exhausted all outpatient treatment options (physical therapy, drug therapy, chiro, pain clinic injections

My symptoms include constaint pain, leg and muscle weakness to the point I have to use crutches to walk most days, numbness in my legs and feet.....the list goes on. I also have arthritis in my SI joint and have been suffering from knee pain and neck tension headaches as a result of my body compensating for my back.

I saw a navy surgeon yesterday who told me that nothing surgically can be done to ease my symptoms...basically I'm broke and they "can't" fix me.

So now my case goes to a PEB.

I am very concerned because I have a category 3 EFM (10 yr old daughter with ADHD/Anxiety Disorder/mild OCD) and I am not sure what is going to happen next or how long it will take. I would appreciate any advice that you could give. I am not familiar with the process and don't know my rights. Please Help!

    daisyviolet,

It is hard to day anything definitively without knowing more about your limitations and range of motion. But from what you have written, it suggests to me that you should be retired. If that happens, you and your eligible dependents will continue to be covered by TriCare.

I hope all goes well for you.

    Confused,

I have DDD (degenerative disk disease) and narrowing of the spine. has anyone said these things to you? and how far advanced is the thing that you have? I believe the spine docs go by mild, moderate, or severe. the wording in what the specialist gives you is everything. DON'T just go by what one doc tells you. get second and third opinions. do your syptoms of pain come from hard work or "micro movements"? if it is the latter, then you need an MRI and have at least 2 "civilian" spine doctors read it. hit me back with more info. I will try to help with the info I have learned.
