Thought I might post this to help other AGR Soldiers if possible.
I know when I first found this forum, I was pleased with all the info out there, but as usual, us AGRs don't quite fit in...
Had issues since return from Iraq in 2004, sought treatment right away, but denied alcohol issues, drank 5 years of my life away, functioning alcoholic/workaholic...
I was diagnosed with PTSD/MDD in June 2009 by civilian psychologist and VA.
Also, migraines, possibly due to stress of PTSD, began in Fall 2010.
Tried all sorts of things to stay in and continue to Soldier. Three years outpatient, three inpatient stays, switching duty positions and responsibilities, reduced work schedule.
I am one of the lucky ones, I think, from reading the stories on here. My command has been supportive from the start.
Finally admitted to myself, and the Army, just cannot continue to be triggered by uniform/military daily and ever get any better.
December 2011 - P3 profile (PTSD/MDD) not migraines, reduced hours again
February 2012 - permanent convalescent leave due to symptoms
April 2012 - looks like my packet will be sent to Fort Knox soon...waiting for commander's narrative and a couple more medical documents. According to my case manager, I should be sent to Fort Knox TDY within a month of them receiving my packet. 14 days TDY to do all the medical appointments, etc. there.
My packet does include info about every ailment I have ever had in the past 26 years...(I only have 17 years AGR)...
I will keep you updated.
Take care
