DDWUSN,
My specialist surgeon is a civilian. He is a wierd dude who doesn't talk much. Not sure if he has even touched my ankle during the last follow-ups. Just keeps saying, I'll be good. I put a call in to his staff to talk with him about writing a prognosis. Depending on what that says, I might not show my MTF doc (0-6 Capt), the prognosis. I am going to ask him for a prognosis. He is an Ortho guy and I am sure he can make that call. Not sure though. He is the one who is going to dictate my MEB and send me to the PEB. I love the guy actually. He asked me before my ankle surgery what I wanted to do. I spent about an hour and a half with the guy talking about quality of life after the Marines and even if with the new CFT coming, how I or other broken Marines are going to handle it. I only hope this PEB will go well. As Jason states, 30% is the key, but again, at this point, severance doesn't sound bad either.

GOOD LUCK!, and remember, you can add your own statement. So if your CO gives a non-medical assessment that describes your inability well, and the doctors statements are so-so, add your own and see if it helps.

Hello,
I have typed up an NMA for my OIC, then my CO to sign. Jason, I would like to send it to you through a private email. Would that be possible?

I want you to take a look at it to see if I am on the right path.

Thanks...

I was asked what my ROM measurements are,

My ankle ROM: dorsiflexion 15/45, plantar flexion 20/45. My left shoulder has 60/80 internal rotation. Both shoulders are at 160 out of 180.

Does anyone have an idea how I might look in front of the PEB? I just started the paperwork for the PEB today. We will see what happens.

One last thing, I have opened the VBA 38 CFR schedule of ratings and I am completely lost. Please take a look and tell me what you think.

I am not sure what you mean by the "/" . Normal dorsiflexion is 20 and in the Army you have to have at least 10. I have -12 and was told unfit at IPEB but only given 10%. The VASRD on ankles is based on why your ankle does not move. Look at 5270, 5271, 5284, 5310, 5311, 5312. I don't know about any of the other stuff.

Good luck

I see what you are saying, I am just thinking that the Navy/Marines do it a bit different. The Captain (0-6) wrote that my dorsiflexion is 15 out of 45 and the plantar flexion is 20 out of 45. That is what I gather from the dicatation. I hope this is correct?! To me it signifies I should get 45 degrees at both points but only achieve 15 degrees in one and 20 degress in the other. I will ask the question before the paperwork goes to the PEB. Thanks for the reply...

That is what i thought you meant but I assure you that dorsiflexion is not more than 20. They many have typed it incorrectly. The plantar flexion is supposed to go to 45

Jim1960,
I have done much research. You are correct, 20% is the most for dorsiflexion. I am going to go back to the Capt(0-6) and have him correct his findings before the MEB goes to PEB. I have my physical tomorrow which is the last thing before everything gets sent up. My physical therapist measured my ankle at 4 degrees on Monday and I wasn't sure what she was talking about. Now I get it, I have 4 degrees of motion out of 20. RIGHT???

If that is the case, including the plantar flexion, does DOD even consider the VA ratings or do they come up with something different?

Thanks again for all the help from everyone.
