Air Force IPEB results timelines

I haven't heard any recent updates for how long processing of IPEB's is taking. If you have recently received results or had to wait an inordinate amount of time since your package was sent of base, your inputs are greatly appreciated.

At least 8 weeks? So could that mean a year or 2? Could you please elaborate on that? Would greatly appreciate any info this waiting is draining the life out of me not sure how much longer I can take it.

I am active duty Air Force with over 9 years of service and today marks the 12th week that my case has been at the IPEB. I have not been informed of its status( other than its not ready). Being that I have had problems with my unit following standards and attempting to stop the MEB I am concerned that they are part of the reason my case has taken so long (i.e. MEB from Nov2007- March2008, IPEB- April 2008-current). Please provide input?

My package was up at Randolph for the IPEB for 7 1/2 weeks (day it was left my base to the day I received the results).

I’m sorry if my response worried anyone. I know it’s difficult but the best thing everyone waiting for the IPEB can do is be patient.

Eight weeks is what I’m seeing as the AF IPEB’s fastest turn around but that doesn’t mean everything gets back in that time. Your findings can take longer but no, you’re not going to languish for a year(s).

In my experience, the Disability Division takes the rules against outside influence very seriously. Other than the commander’s statement, a unit cannot get involved in the PEB (AFPC does not have patients for that sort of thing and will let commanders know it).

I’ve worked with some of the PEB folks for several years and honestly believe they are doing the best they can in an imperfect system. They work as fast as they can but they do place their emphasis on adjudicating cases thoroughly (they do recognize folks careers and livelihoods depend on their work).

Something’s I see slowing them down 1) short staffed 2) complexity of a case or need for additional info, 3) they are getting more cases than ever, 4) they are actually working two systems (the way we’ve done it for years and the new DES pilot), 5) AF redoing the MPFs has added additional workload that used to be done at the personnel flight or orderly rooms, 6) a steady stream of congressional and inquiries that question pretty much every decision they make.

In your experience in cases where the command did not want an indivudal MEB, because out of reprisal they started doing administrative actions to prevent,delay,and complicate the MEB from occurring or to affect its outcome. How has the IPEB handled these situations? For, my command has/is taking actions against me to prevent the MEB from being completed, eventhough it is at the IPEB at this current time( i..e. demotion, adminstrative separation notification, illegal orders, and false allegations). My situation is of such a serious matter that I have petioned for no contact orders for certain indivduals in my chain. Please provide input?

Well, The PEB’s authority only covers determining your fitness for duty and rating related disabilities and they review cases based on a Medical Group Commander referring MEBs to them. Just as they do not allow outside influence, they cannot get involved in issues outside of their authority.

Are you also pending an administrative discharge? That can impact your eligibility for processing or possibly make your case a dual action case.

To answer your question initially I did not, but in an attempt to stop the MEB my chain has served an administrative separation package in the last few weeks. This was done after the MEB found me unfit and referred my case to the IPEB.
