Default Severance Question

I was under the impression that the severance pay was limited to 12 years, now I understand that it can go up to 19 years. My basic claim for the board is PTSD related from Baghdad in 2003. IN any event, can someone explain how they decide severance? Also, is it usually true that the VA will give a much higher percentage that the Army PEB? I have 18 years, and 3 months of Active Federal Service with the Regular Army. Thanks guys, this is one great site!

Yes it has recently changed to 19 years for calculations.

So you would get 18(years) x 2 x base pay, if you receive a rating below 30%. Otherwise 30% and higher receives a retirement based on the percentage you receive.

If you go through the VA when you get out, you have to give them what you received from the military to collect from them, unless you get concurrent payments.

Is there a particular reason why you aren't able to be able to Remain on Active Duty until your 20 year point? I know each branch has a program that allows for that.

My PTSD is severely aggravated by active duty. My doctor feels that I will be much better off being out of the Army and basically talked me into it, I am just worried now about the MEB/PEB process. What does one have to do to qualify for concurrent payments from the VA and the Army?

How does one qualify for concurent pay? My PTSD came from my experience in IRAQ, so it would have to be considered combat related. Not sure if this is the criteria (service connection/combat connection) for concurrent pay?
