Hello All,
This is a great forum and I really want to thank all that makes this possible.
I know this is long but I need to know.
I am a SFC in the US Army Reserve on active status (AGR). I have 26 years total service with 17 documented active years. Once my BASD gets corrected it will reflect 18 years active duty.
Last January I was diagnosed with type II diabetes and high cholesterol. I went on a strict diet and took my injections of insulin. In July last year I was boarded for
MEB/PEB after my command requested it. My command requested me to continue on active duty. My cholesterol went down.
Before the board I read that if I did not have 20 active years and was found to be unfit with less than 30% disability, I will be offered a severance packet and discharged. If I qualified for reserve retirement at age 60, which I do, I will have to select between retirement at age 60 or the severance package. I felt I was going to lose a lot by being found unfit so I claimed I was good to go and can perform my duties. The board found me fit and returned to duty.
Now I am not so sure. My eye sight is really bad. As a 79V Career Counselor I must use the computer a lot and then drive at night. My sight is blurry by mid afternoon and the stress of the job makes my sugar go up. I am now injecting daily insulin. I am seeing an eye doctor to see what they can do so I can see better. I was operated on my eye on active duty in 1985 for lazy eye and it looks like is re-occurring. I claim I can see ok and can drive.
My supervisor says I should get re-evaluated so I can leave my current position for a less stressful one. I told him I do not want to be discharged and walk away with nothing after so long serving my country. May sound selfish, but my spouse is also in need of medical benefits.
My question? Will I be able to get 30% at the PEB with my eyesight issues and diabetes?
Thanks in advanced for your help.
