mybad_z71,
Welcome aboard! I just went through the MEB/IPEB for migraines with aura and etc. I'm an E-6 with 13+ yrs AD.
The condition must be well documented. I had all the discharge papers from my emergency room visits/hospitalizations. I schedule doctors appointments/telephone consults with my PCM OFTEN to discuss my debilitating migraines.
I was seen often at the ER, and I was hospitilized for mine as well because they were so severe that I could not speak or walk properly. I had severe neausea/vomiting with each migraine episode. Also, I had all the documentation from my neurologist supporting how debilitating each episode is.
I missed atleast one-two days per week of duty due to migraines because I was either at the ER or MTF.
MY co-workers and leadership wrote letters on my behalf to my PCM and MEB members explaining how dibilating my migraines with aura is.
Each time I had a migraine episode, either I wrote it in my migraine diary, went to the ER or MTF. My PCM did ask for a copy of my migraine diary before the MEB convened.
I recieved a 50% rating alone just for the migraines. I'm on TDRL. Documentation for continuous treatment was key, and so was the documentation from my leadership.
Let me know if you more questions.

everything purple said is spot on.,
I was placed on the TDRL and rated 40% for refractory chronic migraines w/aura and cluster headaches with syncope.
The key is to keep a good paper trail, just as purple said keep a daily diary medicine taken, missed work, serverity of migraine etc...and bring that diary with you everytime you visit your neurologist or emergency room.
The evaluations from your upper chain of command will be important as well as too how your migraines affected your ability to perform you military duties.
any more question just ask. Only us migraneurs know how bad the pain is and trust me I sympathize. I would rather be dead then deal with chronic migrianes and cluster attacks the pain is soooo bad.
what meds they have you on?
Im on 100mg of Elavil
12.5mg Axert
and I got a prescription for a oxygen tank for my home for my cluster attacks....

thanks for all the responses, i just dont want to get screwed. as far as the e.r. goes i have been three times in two weeks and now theyre to the point where they tell me they cant do nothing for me, since im under the care of the neurologist, basically tellin me stop wasting my time goin there. they got me taking zomig, imitrex, midrin, topamax and tramadol. what determines the percentage and severance pay? can you get 40 or 50 percent and get severance pay?

This is the ratings formula for migraines:
8100 Migraine:
With very frequent completely prostrating and prolonged attacks
productive of severe economic inadaptability 50
With characteristic prostrating attacks occurring on an average once
a month over last several months................... 30
With characteristic prostrating attacks averaging one in 2 months over
last several months 10
With less frequent attacks 0
Severance pay is due when you are unfit for conditions rated at 0%,10% or 20%. Retirement is awarded with a rating of 30% or higher.
Hope this helps!

mybad_z71,
For dibilitating migraines, I did report to the ER when I was able to drive. If I could not drive, then my spouse would drive me. Depending on my location at the time of attack determined which ER to be utilized.
If the ER stated they could not help you, I suggest using a different ER. Please don't give up. If you are suffering from migraines, you must show proof to the MTF, PCM, MEB, and IPEB with well documented medical evidence.
It doesn't matter if you are seeing a neurologist. If you need ER assistance for a dibilitating migraine attack, them you have a right to be seen.
Sometimes it could take days or weeks to see a neurologist unless he/she has cancellations on the day of your attack.
Hang in there and get the care you deserve!
