Default New/Hello/Intro

Hello folks. I am new to the forums - stumbled across it quite by accident...and I am a 20 year Vet (LTC)

Anyway, my PEB packet is down at WRAMC for evaluation. Two days ago, as I was checking the status on my packet (which reached the 5 week mark on Wednesday), when I noticed that it had been returned for further information.

I called my PEB rep, and she told me it was in regards to a Range of Motion issue.

Quick backtrack - injured in Iraq, 7 surgeries later, fused from S1 up to L3 and cervical from C3-C4. That's the major stuff.

Anyway - I had my ROM test done at the PT/OT clinic here on post and they were done by a licensed Army OT.

The paperwork requested that the ROM tests be done by a physician...who is not an OT/PT. He was able to do the ROM tests, but we had to utilize a slide show to show specifically what needed to be done and how to measure. So my question is, other than the difference between a physician and a licensed OT - why would that have to be redone?

The measurements were nearly identical - but now they have my PCF's signature on it.

Anyway - this is a great site - and hello.

AV8R,

Welcome, good to have you here!

My take is that it really doesn't matter much, except that if they had questions or doubts, they were within the scope of their power to ask for additional information. Not sure why they would do that, but so long as the outcome was consistent, it does not seem like there is much to worry about (though, with all ROM studies, I always am concerned if they have accurately captured Deluca criteria, i.e., impact of pain, flares, ROM on repetition, limitations on endurance, coordination, etc.).

Hope your PEB goes well and please let us know any questions.

Hello and welcome!

It seems strange they would want a physician to do the ROM over an OT/PT, especially considering ROM tests are a pivotal part of their patient evaluations more so than the doctors.

I'm anxious to see what they say...regardless - just added more verification if nothing else. I'm hoping to get the PEB back from DC this week. I will post when I get them.

Thanks SFXER - there is a wealth of good info in here.

Here's on for the crowd:

If my PEB comes back at 100% rating and the Army PDRLs me, is there a way to determine the amount I will receive from the Army? I understand the VASRD part of it...but what will the Army $$ me? It would be LTC/20

The highest percentage you can get by military disability retirement is 75%. I don't recall the equation offhand, but I think one way they do it is the average of your three highest months of base pay.

AV8R,

I hope you get a favorable result on your PEB. Just to clarify, the calculations are:
Severance pay: 2 times years of service (minimum of 3 years, maximum of 19) times base pay
Retirement: The higher of 1) years of service times 2.5% times average of high 36 months of base pay, or 2) disability award times average of high 36 months of base pay. For the first calculation you need to be awarded 30% or higher or have an unfitting condition with 20 years or more of service.

ok...the MEB came back for the ROM tests. It has been finished and now is back in DC for the PEB findings. On the 3947 there are 8 items listed - of which 3 are deemed "Does not meet Retention Standards"..and they are:

1. Chronic Back Pain
2. Cervical Spine Disease
3. Bilateral Cubital Tunnel Syndrome

These are all checked "YES" under the "Incurred while Entitled to Base Pay" and "NO" for existed prior to Service.

The MEB approving auth checked that "The findings and recommendation of the board are approved"

Here are the ROM results (and sorry for rambling"

Forward Flexion N=0 to 90
AROM = 33 (after 3 reps = 23)

Extension N=0 to 30
AROM = 6 (after 3 reps = 12)

Left Lateral Flexion (0 - 30)
AROM = 16 (no change after 3 reps)

Right Lateral Flexion (0 - 30)
AROM = 16 (no change after 3 reps)

Left lateral Rotation (0 to 30)
AROM 10 (no change after 3 reps)

Right lateral Rotation (0 to 30)
AROM 11 (no change after 3 reps)

And the rest is just notes and emails.

I was told the PEB board was only waiting on this new ROM and that I may get the final PEB results tomorrow afternoon...then I guess it goes to the ratings section.
