Default Have back problems and need help.

I'm a Sgt in the Marine and have been having serious back problems for about a year now. I have been put on limited duty twice now and coming up to the end of my second. I have degenerative disk disease on multiple levels, i had ruptured my L5-S1 which led to a diskectomy that only releived some of the leg pain. the back pain is still there constantly. I have trouble bending, sitting, standing, pretty much everything. on top of that i have torn tendons in my right knee and cannot bend my knee too well or put weight on it without it killing me. I haven't been put on a MEB yet and don't know how exactly it works and what i have to look forward to. I am also worried to death that i will not get a medical retirement and they will just send me packing. Any help and information would be greatly appreciated, i could use everything i could get.

Welcome to the board...you just found the jackpot of knowledge

I am going to PM you, send me your email and I will email you all kinds of orders and knowledge you need to get up speed on. I was a SSgt in the Marines and was just put on TDRL so I might be able to answer some your questions pertaining to the Navy/Marine MEB/PEB.

Make sure you keep a GOOD paper trail and document EVERYTHING.
Someon with more knowledge will reply and be able to help you as well.

Gonna send you a PM now
good luck

parksji,

Welcome! Before we get down to specifics, make sure you look over the Overview of MEB/PEB Process thread to get a baseline of knowledge. Pay particular attention to the fitness/unfitness question, what conditions you have that fail retention standards, and what the potential ratings are under the VASRD.

hi, i'm new to the site and i came across this thread. i have nearly identical problems healthwise as the original poster. my issue is that i was sent to an advanced electronics school toward the end of my first limdu. i tried to explain to everyone my status and that i felt my orders should be canx but they would not. now, i am about to be put on a peb but when i read the order on it i saw a section saying the can retain you on a permanent limdu status if you attended a school that requires a service obligation past the grad date. i'm just trying to figure out if this is something they do alot, should i be worried or what? any help would be great.

They usually don't keep Marines on PLD unless you are close too retirement.
The thing I am confused about is why they sent you to a service school when you were on LIMDU. Makes no sense why your CO would sign off on that.

I wouldn't worry bout being out on LIMDU in the Marine Corp unless of course you are close to retirement.

like fixer said,
you guys hit the jackpot w/this site.
i was MEB'd for my back in 2007 and my unit keeps messing up paperwork, orders, etc.. same stuff l5-s1. i've had 4 surgeries since 2006 so if you guys need any info., i'd be glad to help.
the paper trail is one of the key components. i would highly suggest initiating your claims w/the VA ASAP. i'm a big believer in the veteran's agancies. i've been using my local DAV and veteran's center for the PTSD side.
back injuries are tuff. that's why i would prep yourself for an MEB, just incase. "hope for the best and prepare for the worse." they dropped mine on me after my 1'st surgery and before my 2'nd.
good luck!!!
