Default Severance pay is not being calculated properly

I have been found unfit with severance pay. It has come time for me to start my 20 days of house and job hunting plus 45 days of terminal leave, but my personnel office is not using the correct formula to calculate my severance pay. The way that I have read on this site and the governing directives is that I am entitled to 2 months base pay x the number of years served. I am an E-6 with 9 years. So using this years numbers and not accounting for a pay raise in 2009 I should expect (2840.10 x 2) x 9 years equaling 51121.80 before taxes.

Am I way of base? Personnel is coming up with around 14K before taxes. Obviously one of us is wrong. I have e-mailed them all of the directives and instructions and go to try and work this out tomorrow. I guess I need a little peace of mind before I go. Does anyone know who comes up with the final amout to be paid? Is it DFAS? Is it my local PSD? Pleas advise soonest, and goos luck to all!

Your calculations are correct. DFAS does the payment, but I am not sure about what interface finance has with them.

Is all of your time active duty? If you have reserve time, they will compress the time down to reflect one day of drill, AT, ADSW, etc., equaling one day of active duty.

All of my time is active duty. I believe that they are using the formula for involuntary seperation not due to disability. The personnelmen I have the pleasure of dealing with told me that the disability was only for the VA and that my severance pay was figured using ".5". I guess I am going to have to go above him, but I am not sure who I can get to make the right calculations. I am going to show them the DoD FMR 7a CH 35 sec 3504 if that is not good enough I dont know what will be.

I think you are correct with your calculations. However, I have 4 yrs active and 12 reserves. My PEBLO said it will be twice my drill pay..I know its 2 times your active duty pay times your years. PEBLO compressed the time which gave me 6.5 total years. Because in the reserves...50points is a year...you will need a good 7 - 8 years to make an active duty year which means the severance is calculated by the active duty pay...let me know if you are right...
