Confused on severance pay

hello everyone i just have a little question. Ok i understand severance pay, its just that i don't know when i will recieve it, i keep getting different answers on how long, one says oh it could take up to 2 weeks, others say after 7 days, others say even 30 days, i know it may be different for everyone i guess i would just like an opinion, you know to make me feel better, my last day is 14 sep 08 and i am not getting paid at all this month so yea....im in a little trouble, trying to find a job but there are none... thanks guys

I think you hit it dead on, it may be different depending on numerous factors (date of separation, if your DFAS analyst inputs it ASAP, etc.). I had not heard of any lengthy delays in receiving the pay, but I have not really been tracking this issue, either. Probably, the best answers will come from other members here (hint, hint, y'all, chime in!).

I hope you get it quickly and have some good luck with the job issue. It is really hard to leave the military, move, and try to pick up with a new life in a short period of time.

I didn't receive severance pay, but I did recieve a payment for selling back leave. I think I got the payment in less than a week after my approved TDRL date. I did call back to my finance office though, and they processed my pay really fast. It may depend on your finance office..

I know what you mean I am a separation specialist in the Marine Corps as far as severance pay goes it is something calculated in your last check. If all goes right meaning your admin gets it to the finance office in the proper timeframe. You should receive it on your EAS to 2 days after. However, it is a common problem in the Marines (and other forces i hear) that the admin offices do not supply the proper paperwork or even on time so that can delay it. But it is supposed to be paid in your last paycheck which according to the DoD is upon the date of discharge. But as I said the admin offices often turn it in late sometimes not all thier own fault I have seen it where the DD214 is not properly signed off until after discharge. So in a perfect world you would get it monday or tuesday realistically i would say a week from this monday is the normal turn around time any later i would contact your admin first to make sure it was submitted and not rejected then the finance office of your respective command.

I have the same problem. I planned on moving to find a new home and job. i am stuck until i get my severance. my last day was sep 19th. my roomate went through an meb and received her severance around 5 days after discharge. my peblo said 20 days,finance on post said 10 days. this is crazyness...and the bills aren't helping.
