Default AFI 36-3212 Rewrite about transitioning

I was not sure where to put this post, but I guess this place will do just fine.

I am still no expert on this entire process but there are things I do know that need to be changed. This is especially true for the 40 day rule to transition out of the service (need more time) after the board makes a final decision to separate or retire an individual.

I also think something needs to change regarding trying to start a MEB on someone with less than a year before retirement. My intent is to have my retirement ceremony next June of 2009 but I have been stuck in this MEB process for well over 3 or 4 months now and I still do not even have a date yet for the Formal Board.

I have tried to submitting an IDEA/Suggestion through the AF Program recommending changes the AFI 36-3212 AFI but it quickly was disapproved because it didn't benefit the AF in any way (only benefitted the AF member).

I have moved on to the OPR of the AFI and stated my case and they said that the AFI is going through a major rewrite and the 40 day rule is something they are definitely looking at changing so that is a good thing.

I also have been told all along from the PEBLO and others that once coded for MEB you COULD NOT submit your retirement paperwork. Well, I did anyway and the AFPC system allowed it to go through. I even called them and told them I was still going through MEB. They didn't care but they did say that the MEB decision could overrule my retirement date.

I would think that if I go to the Formal Board with an already approved retirement date they would be hard pressed to still change it and make me retire a few months early, but we shall see.

Without going through a lot of details there were other things I challenged the AFI and the MEB process on and I even wrote my Congressman and Senators and explained to them all of the wasted Manpower, time & hours, and tax payers dollars that are being wasted on just my MEB alone when all I want to do is retire anyway in a few months.

Bottom line is they are rewriting the AFI and the 40 day rule may get increased to 90 or 120 days which would help the transition better at least.
