If there is a CRSC expert out there for calculation please assist. I see how others received help, but I still don't get it. My breakdown as follows.
I am NG with 16 years 4 months. I have a total of almost 9 years active with my NG points divided by 365.
100% VA with spouse and 2 dependants = 3,350
80% Army = can't draw until I'm 57 yrs old
100% CRSC = unsure of pay
retired rank E6/SSG DOR 2007.

thanks for any help

Question for you about being medically retired. You stated that you are retired @ 80% Army. If you are a Chapter 61 retiree, why do you have to wait until 57 to draw your retirement?

Because I am NG. With my 3 tours I do not have to wait till 60. I was at the WTB at Fort Belvoir for over 18 months. I was medically retired 23 December. But my state gave me a 15 year retirement letter because I had over 16 yrs. I was not allowed to retire and draw my retirement pay immediately I was told. I'm not sure how that all works so I took their word for it.

The reason I am asking. I was medically retired on March 1st (Army Reserves). I have my blue I.D card, but now I am confused. From my understanding I thought that chapter 61 retirees regardless ( Active duty, NG or Reserves) draw retirement pay immediately.

I too have my blue retirement I.D. I received retirement pay from DFAS for 2 months, which was tax free. I was worried because it was tax free and I was told I had to wait till 57. DFAS confirmed the payment and said that pay was until my VA benefits kicked in. Once my VA benefits were in place I would have to pay back the army that money they were giving me with the backpay from the VA. My VA benefits are now in place and the pay from the army stopped. I have a letter in my mypay account from the army telling me my retirement pay amount and entitlements. But I can't start drawing it until I reach proper age.

But if you know something that I am missing please let me know. My AW2 is the one that filled my CRSC packet for me. And on my final out, the office that handled my DD 214 and my death benefits for my family called my state to get me the 15 year letter because they weren't going to do it, because they were not sure of the regulations. But when I left that office, that night I had a copy of my 15 year retirement letter. I am getting my Tricare benefits now and everything else a retired soldier would be entitled too, just not my retirement pay.

Your VA is more than your retirement pay. Somebody will eventually chime in advice their expertise.

Case:
--I am NG with 16 years 4 months. I have a total of almost 9 years active with my NG points divided by 365.
--100% VA with spouse and 2 dependents = 3,350
--80% Army = can't draw until I'm 57 yrs old
--100% CRSC = unsure of pay
--retired rank E6/SSG DOR 2007.

Reply:
1. You indicated you are @80% Army but cannot receive retired pay until 57. The maximum retirement one can receive is 75% (although 80% might be cited). Additionally, your remark about age suggests a reserve retirement.

2. Have you received a CH 61 DoD disability retirement and also are eligible for reserve retirement at age 60 (minus a certain number of months/years for deployments)?

3. Did you apply for CRSC to your service (separate from your discharge/retirement) and receive a 100% approval? Or...are you
speaking about the characterization of the decision pertaining to a CH 61 retirement?

4. An individual must be entitled to retired pay in order to qualify for CRSC (among other requirements).

Eligibility
To qualify for CRSC you must:
  • be entitled to and/or receiving military retired pay
  • be rated at least 10 percent by the Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA)
  • waive your VA pay from your retired pay
  • file a CRSC application with your Branch of Service
Disabilities that may be considered combat related include injuries incurred as a direct result of:
  • Armed Conflict
  • Hazardous Duty
  • An Instrumentality of War
  • Simulated War
I can estimate your CRSC once you answer the questions above and also provide your average high 3 for retirement OR the gross retired pay shown on your RAS from DFAS. Please cite the source.

I know 75% is the max. My retirement orders state 80% though. Not saying I'm getting 80%. But, yes I'm entitled to my retirement when I am 57 because of my combat tours. They viewed all my deployment orders and it the codes required ( don't know what they are on top of my head) that counted toward the quarters spent in Iraq and Afghanistan with that bill that passed after 2008 subtracting months of possible retirement age.
I am a chapter 61. I have a 15 year letter from my state that I received before my retirement. The 15 year letter States that I am going to collect retirement when I become of age.
While at the WTB at Belvoir I went through the VA in DC with their C&P and they gave me 100%. Before leaving the WTB, once I had my DD214 in hand and medical retirement orders, I made my final stop to my AW2 and gave him the last of the required documents to send in my CRSC packet to Fort Knox.
On my pay, it states my RAS is 2,754.
Does this help? Not sure

Computation:

1. Gross retired pay: On my pay, it states my RAS is 2,754.
2. 2754/0.75 = 3672 ave high three for ret pay
3. 9 yr AD x 2.5% = 22.5% multiplier
4. 3672 x 0.225 = 826 dollar amt of longevity portion of retired pay
5. CRSC @ 100% = 2754 (speculation. not approved yet)
6. Entire 2754 retired pay is waived due to receipt of VA comp of 3350
7. Amount at item 4 is less than amount at item 5.
8. CRSC payable based on info provided is 826
9. You should receive each month: 826 CRSC + 3350 VA = 4176 (based on info provided)

You're welcome...I spend most of my time on another veterans board but I enjoy this one as well.

Good luck...
