This is what I received from the VA today in re to the processing time for ratings decision phase. Not sure how everybody is fairing on this lately:

(BTW, my file is at the Baltimore Regional VA)

This is in response to your inquiry to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) dated July 10, 2012.

Thank you for your service to our country.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your inquiry. We are currently experiencing a large volume of inquiries and are working as quickly as possible to respond to each in a timely manner.

Your claim is currently awaiting a decision by our rating team. A rating specialist will review it to make sure we have everything we need. If we determine additional information is needed, we will contact you. If we have everything we need, we will prepare a decision on your claim. At this time, there is no indication that further evidentiary information is needed from you to support your claim.

The Decision Phase is completed on most claims on average in 200 days.

The length of time it takes to complete the Decision Phase depends on several factors, such as the type of claim filed, the number of disabilities you claimed, and VA’s pending workload. A claim may take longer in this phase based on the specifics of your claim.

There is one additional phase: Notification Phase.

Hey aviator, Did you submit a BDD, a Fully Developed Claim.... or Quick Start Claim.... and did you seperate around the Baltimore area? :)

My claim was a fully developed claim originating from the Omaha, NE VA...which went to regional here (Lincoln NE). After a while, it showed up in Baltimore. I'm still AD in the midwest, and I thought that the regional in Lincoln was the deciding VA, but apparently evrything is being pushed to Baltimore (and Cleaveland from what I've been reading). It seems like mine sat at the Lincoln VA through the "gathering evidence" phase then went to Baltimore and changed to "preparation for decision".

Did you have to do the C/P Exams or are you IDES, and when did you turn this over to VA? :(

I'm AD and being MEB'd for lung and thyroid disease from the burn pits at Balad (documented). I'm in the IDES system and completed the C&P exams. My package is at the PEB now to determine fit/unfit, as well as the package at the VA for ratings. So, I think I'm at the same point as many here, waiting to hear from the PEB. For the AF, they don't let us know our ratings from the VA until we hear back from the PEB (per the 199). My problem is that I know what happens in the military when things get shuffled around...the more people that handle it, the higher the odds that it will get lost, etc.

My package took about 8 weeks for the VA to make a decision on all of my conditions. It was pretty recent too I think it was returned to the PEB 4JUN12. I kept calling the 1800 va number until I finally got someone that would mail the findings to my house.

Whats the VA number? I may need to call

I am at Ft Lewis and my packet went to VA July 27. MSC told me they are backlogged 3 months. So i am projecting Oct or Nov for my 199. Anyone else in that same time frame. I saw the guy at FT BLISS got his back alot faster. I went on ebenefits today and still shows pending decision approval. I have 17 conditions and 2 failing DOD conditions for the ARMY.

Hey Smacinnes40,

I am right behind you. I am at Lewis as well and my packet went on 8 Aug to VA. However, I talked to MSC on Monday and he told me the Seattle/Auburn VA offices had hired more folks. I have one condition that fails DoD and 15 total conditions. My MSC told me not to hold my breath but it might only take about 45 days for PEB to get the packet back from VA. My ebenefits status is the same as yours. Let me know if you hear anything and i'll do the same.

I'm at Fort Bliss and my packet went to the VA on 31 July and per my PEBLO my DA 199 was in the writing phase since 10 Aug. However, I have only 1 DoD unfitting condition and 1 condition that met retention.

Roy B & Smacinnes40 -

I'm not at Lewis but my packet is up there. My packet has been at the VA since August 3rd. I received my unfit for duty memo on Aug 7th. I called the VA's 800 number and it didn't do me any good. The woman I spoke to couldn't tell me if my packet is still sitting in a pile or if it had been assigned to a rater - nothing. My eBenefits says "Preparation for Decision." I did submit a IRIS request around August 7th (before I received my unfit memo I saw movement in eBenefits so I thought I'd check on the off chance). In the IRIS reply, the guy told me the average time for the decision phase is 60 days for the Seattle VA. So I guess we'll see how true it is!

Hi Cntstopme -

I was told 45 to 60 days depending on the backlog for Seattle. Supposedly, my 199 is "in the process of being typed" according a PEBLO. I did ask about a unfit for duty memo and was told that I would have to wait for the 199. I will believe once I see it. The entire MEB board process is a whole lot of "unknowns". I'll be happy when it is over. I will update you when I get them. Can you give me a link to the IRIS?

Roy,
I can definitely understand. I am so ready to be done and out. Please keep me updated on the status of your case. The IRIS website is located on the VA's webpage - https://iris.custhelp.com/app/ask/

You usually receive a reply fairly quickly. It was helpful and gave me some good details about my case.
