Greetings my fellow veterans!
I just wanted to share something with those who are dealing with the after-effects of a TBI. A little background on myself; deployed to Iraq during OIF II. Shortly after arriving, I was knocked unconcious by an enemy rocket that exploded less than ten feet away. Threw me backwards over a jersey barrier and knocked me out. Been suffering from the effects of TBI since this incident occured in 2004. Wasn't evaluated for it until 2008. This topic has become very near and dear to my heart.
I also serve as a Veteran Service Officer with the VFW, and I am starting to see, more and more, the dramatic impact this type of injury is causing with our younger vets returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. So I decided I would share this bit of vital information with my fellow vets who also suffer from TBI.
Recently, the Dept. of Veterans Affairs has updated the Schedule for Rating Disabilities in regards to the Evaluation of Residuals of a TBI. Included in this document is how a veteran who has already been evaluated for this condition, would go about requesting to have their initial findings revaluated.
I hope this vital document is a help to all of those who are dealing with this issue as well as their family members. Take care, and God bless!
