I think they are just confused on the terminology. From what he described, it sounds like he was retired (though, I am curious how he was rated).

I received 30% rating with a 3,000 severance pay which I am presently paying back. They take 117.00 per month out of my compensation monthly pay. I just received my rating for my PTSD. I am still waiting for other ratings which are over 1 year old. Can you beleive the VA never got evidence from my OIF/OEF Therapist/Psychiatrist? You would think they would be the first ones.

No, I was not retired I receive 20% when I got out and then shortly after that they gave me an additional 10% equalling 30%. When I received all of my records from the release of information I saw I had multiple herniated discs, traumatic arthritis in my spine from the blast as well as asthma. This all had a date on it from 8 months before I got out. The whole time I was going to TMC for pain, they kept telling me it was bursitis and spondylyosis. However, they had the correct wounds/injuries right in front of them the whole time. I lost complete faith in their system immediately. I am scheduled to receive back surgery in December. They also listed I had anxiety from my chronic wounds/injuries. When in fact I had PTSD. But these terminolgies give less %'s and less money.

My husband has been at our local VA for almost a year seeing a psychiatrist. I just found out last month that she has NEVER seen one document or medical record from Walter Reed, where he was a patient for three years. I about flipped when she told me this...and then told *me* to get the records when I asked how she can explain to me how this happened. She put it on ME to fix or take blame for it happening in the first place. Like you said, you'd expect them to be the first to be notified of any problems. Argh!

The VA has a duty to assist, which includes searching for military health records. Their failure to do so often results in a remand and the possibility of increased benefits.

I am guessing the Army gave you 20% and the VA gave you 30%.

Yes that is what they did. I just received 30% for my PTSD but the VA math equals 50% not 60%? I have to appeal this PTSD rating because they never contacted my Psychiatrists/Therapist regarding my weekly care for this PTSD and the meds. I take to control the symptoms. I would have received a true 50%. I am also waiting for the possibility of receiving temporary 100% comp. due to individual unemployability. We shall see.
