VA Award Letter Question

Thanks for the reply, chaplain. In the state of Virginia, VA 100% P&T vs just 100% without P&T is the difference between paying property taxes and not paying property taxes. I realize that it'll be what it is, and hopefully I'll be able to appeal to have the rating changed to permanent as well. Thanks again!
So did you find out if it was P&T or not? That is the main reason I was pumped about P&T was the property taxes here in Texas.

I'm going to assume it's "no" since my letter in ebenefits specifically says no, but I'm hoping to get the VA letter in the mail this week. Unless it says otherwise, I guess I'm out of luck. I'll post what I find out!

It took about 20 days after I uploaded my DD 214 to receive the letter from the VA
Note how this gentleman states that he uploaded the DD 214. That seems to be the key thing being left out. You have to be proactive during this entire process. Make sure you are doing your part. In the event VA or DOD drops the ball you can at least know that you did all that you could to improve your situation.
Best of luck

Got my official letter from the VA today. They say it's got a chance for improvement and I'm subject to future exams. If there was a cure discovered over the last week, I'm sure I missed the memo.

You can appeal their decision. % of my almost 30 contentions were initially temporary. I appealed and all were made permanent. The lady who approved my appeal called and apologized for the original decision.

That sucks man. Hopefully when you appeal it they will become permanent.

In Texas:
100% is a three year exclusion from property taxes; renewable.
100% permanent is a permanent exclusion from property taxes.

It sounds like Virginia is more strict on this point.

I wish you the best as you continue to work on getting a permanent award.

Thanks! To be honest, I'm pretty happy with what I have. I'll still try to submit for P&T, but if I don't get it, it's ok. :)

I'm going to have to look into how I do that. I don't want to open myself up to going through the entire c&p process again. I'll try to figure out how to only appeal for P&T reconsideration.

That's pretty awesome of Texas. MD is all or none; 100% P&T tax exempt, anything else means nothing.

Every place is different. TX always gives partial exemption from property tax for lower levels of disability.

I appeals the permanent part and never had to do further exams. Just went onto e-benefits and filed an appeal. It took less than 30 minutes of my time.

It took the VA 7 months!

That's good to know. I'll have to look up what I need to file the appeal on ebenefits. Additional evidence or whatever. It's odd because my original letter from my PCM who initiated the meb written as permanent in nature. Even the CP exam doc wrote the prognosis as "guarded". Since it's only been a couple days since receiving my decision, I obviously don't have anything new to submit.

If you are still AD, in the process of C&P, you can file a VARR. That is much faster than an appeal. You shouldn't need new evidence. I'd just quote the evidence you have already submitted.

Sometimes they just make mistakes. You call it to their attention and hopefully it gets fixed!

I'm already finished and retired last month. But your advice has been really helpful. I'll be going on to ebenefits today and seeing what's required. Thanks so much, Chaplain Charlie!

what is a VARR? I am in this part of my MEB and wanted to get one of my claimed conditions corrected. how do I do this?

VARR= VA Rating Reconsideration. You can ask your PEBLO for a VARR on any contention you believe was not properly rated. You do this when your rating come back from the VA. You have 10 days to decide.

A VARR is only useful for PEB-referred conditions and not DoVA claimed conditions while still in the DoD IDES process.

All other medical conditions/contentions for any potential correction would have to be done after the service member becomes a military veteran via a DoVA reconsideration or a DoVA NOD.

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer!"

Best Wishes!

100% P&T also gives your dependents education benefits. 100 P&T has some other benefits depends on which state you live in.
