Va / DoD Ratings permanent

I was rated 70% perm from DoD but 80% total. Is there a way to check if any of my disabilities from the VA are perm? I checked e benefits and there is an option but only for TOTAL and PERMANENT meaning 100% and perm. There is no option to see if any of my disabilities are perm. I am asking because in colorado I can get DV (disabled veteran) plates but they are asking for a letter from the VA or branch of service. However the dmv doesn't know how to use DoD paperwork so they denied me when I brought my 70% perm letter from the DoD.

So if the VA doesn't rate me perm 70% for the same disability I won't be able to get a disabled veteran plate even though the Dod rating me that.

*DV requires*
50%+ perm service connected disability (my paperwork didn't say the exact words "service connected" so it was denied even though common sense states that its service connected, even the lady said it was service connected)
Honorable discharge (DD214)

Would the letter I receive in the mail from the Dod where it says "Did this happen in the line of duty or some sort like that" (YES) would that qualify as "service connected"?
They also won't accept any single documents all words have to be on the same paper.

Any help is appreciated

You likely know there is a summary of benefits letter on eBenefits. If not, you should check that.

Years ago in Colorado and before the advent of eBenefits I contacted the Denver VARO and received a letter that statisfied the motor vehicle department. I was 50% at the time. You might call the VA about this problem or better yet, if there is a VA clinic in your area with a small VARO element, you could visit with them. Colorado Springs has one.

You should contact your state or local office of Veterans' affairs for information on any tax, license, or fee-related benefits for which you may be eligible. State offices of Veterans' affairs are available at http://www.va.gov/statedva.htm.

So for future help. Dod Recieves ratings from the VA thus my 70% perm disability from the dod is 70% perm from va as well.

I am not sure I understand your comment.

DoD ratings are not always the same as that of the VA. I have seen dozens that are different.
Example: DoD 60%...VA 100%

Apply for Disability Parking in Colorado

You can apply for a disabled placard or license plate from your local Colorado DMV office either by mail or in person.

To apply for any placard type or disability license plates, you will need to submit:
  • The Parking Privileges Application (Form DR 2219), which must include medical certification by a doctor
  • Payment for applicable fees:
    • Short-term, temporary placards (red) are free
    • Long-term placards (blue) are free
    • License plate: Taxes and registration fees
Submit your application to your county motor vehicle office, either by mail or in person.

Disabled Veteran License Plates

Disabled veteran license plates are available to Colorado military veterans with a permanent disability rating of at least 50%.

These license plates are free, and the DMV issues only 1 set.

To apply for a disabled veteran license plate, you will need:
  • The Military License Plate Application (Form DR 2002)
  • A DoVA statement verifying your permanent disability rating
  • The vehicle title (or a copy for mailed applications) showing you as the vehicle owner
Submit your application by mail or in person to your local Colorado DMV office.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In summary, as based upon the information provided on the Colorado Official State Web Portal's Department of Revenue, Division of Motor Vehicles "License Plates - Military" web page, you will need to complete the Military License Plate Application (Form DR 2002) as attached and select the applicable military license plate within Section 3. It states

"Person With Disability (PWD) Military License Plate 42-3-204(3), 42-3-213(1)(h), and 42-3-218(2)(b), C.R.S. Who Qualifies: An applicant for a military license plate that also demonstrates a physical impairment affecting mobility under the standards provided in section 42-3-204(1), C.R.S. Verification of physical impairment is completed by the applicant submitting the DR 2219 Parking Privileges Application Proof: Completed DR 2219 Parking Privileges Application and the proof required for the selected military license plate demonstrating that the applicant has met the requirements to be issued that military license plate."

If you also qualify for a "Person With Disability (PWD) Military License Plate" then you will need to also complete the "PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES PARKING PRIVILEGES APPLICATION" (Form DR 2219) as attached. An applicant that meets the requirements for a qualified exempt military license plate may only be issued one license plate that is exempt ownership taxes and registration fees. Additional license plates will be assessed full taxes and fees. It's important to note that all PWD military license plates have the center logo/emblem removed and replaced with the international wheelchair logo.

With that all said, I hope the aforementioned information is helpful. Take care!

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer!"

Best Wishes!

Well in my case I mean for my perm disability. Im retired due to mental health which was rated 70% perm Dod. That was translated to the VA 70% perm as well, not including a few other injuries which are not perm.

Thank you for your clarification.

Recommend you contact the VA for the letter you need. If you are still in the Colorado Springs area, a Denver VARO representative is available at the Lindstrom VA Clinic on the west side of The Springs.
