Hello all. I posted before about this but just wanted to get some more opinions as I'm about to have a panic attack over this. I received the long form and have to fill it out and send it back to SS by 18 February. A little background, I medically retired from the Army in 2015 and have 100% from both DoD and VA P&T. I was awarded SSDI in March 2016. I have been in college for the most part of the last 3 years and am about to finish getting my associates degree. I've been using VA Voc Rehab all along because the benefits outweighed the Post 9/11 GI Bill. I'm just hoping that this isn't counterproductive and make me look like I'm seeking employment at this time. I start a bachelors program in fall 2019 semester so I've got another few years to try to get my shit together and hope that sometime after I graduate I can try to reenter the workforce in some capacity. Before I moved to Georgia, I had a good structured pattern of medical/medicinal management. However, once I came here, I just hated my experience at the VA trying to get a DR and gave up, I also haven't found a therapist in my area and just don't want to have to travel back and forth to the Atlanta area for good care. Before I got the SS letter my wife was on my case about getting back in therapy of some kind as well as medicine to help with BH issues, so I called the VA and have an appointment at the end of March, so I'm hoping that I mesh with whatever DR I see and get that taken care of as well. Does anyone else have any ideas or suggestions for me? What has anyone else's experience been? Have any of you had to appeal a continuing review decision? I'm almost tempted to contact my therapist in SC and make a day trip just to touch base with her and get a 90 minute session so that it shows up that I've seen someone since August 2016, and taken medicine since August 2017. Again, any opinion or advice is appreciated.

Umm, just curious how does your brain heal itself? I've had multiple cognitive tests done since 2011 and the last in 2016 which showed no inprovement. Tell me Mr neurologist how does me not wanting to be on meds mean I dont have PTSD anymore? I never said i dont need treatment, just that i dont want to keep going and driving back and forth to the VA.
Getting therapy will not hurt, especially since your wife has notice some issues. SSA often reviews certain disability cases.

I am not a neurologist. You need a psychiatrist.
If I don’t take my psyc meds I get hospitalized. Can’t make it without them. Admittedly don’t get much out of therapy though.

Psychiatry is BARELY a science on a good day. That is a fact. Psychology is also hardly a STEM degree. Therapy is time and again proven to be as much help for some vets as pica is for bulimics. Many brain injuries are lumped in or even misdiagnosed (by a shrink) with PTSD and no amount of time with a psychologist is going to do anything for them, meanwhile the ruoulette wheel of guessing drugs sends them sprialling into hell and back, if they are lucky.
You don’t need to convince any of us. You need to be able to convince SS. They will want answers as to why you haven’t seen a doctor in years. Start preparing yourself now to answer them.

Well, update time. I already had an appointment scheduled with my local VA facility before I got my notice for review I the mail, and they have called and said they had to cancel my initial intake because the appointment I had was "triple booked", so I needed to wait for a call back to reestablish an appointment. Well, my appointment was supposed to be 21 March but now the next available appointment is in August. This is just for an initial intake and to get meds reestablished. Absolute and utter BS. I've called all 7 local therapists offices for counseling and none of them accept any form of insurance. Only cash payments, they say this is so that patients don't have mental health concerns on file preventing them from getting life insurance. Is this a thing? Also, since they don't accept any form of insurance, it'll be $195-$215 for each 60 minute visit. Does this seem high to anyone who does pay out of pocket? When I was in SC my therapist took insurance and i had a small copay with tricare.
