1. Gross Retired Pay on DFAS RAS $2766
2. DoD Disability rating is 100%
3. 5.3 years (around 1909 points)
4. 100% VA Compensation, $3227.58 (Spouse only)
5. I have 10% CRSC approved.
6. I do not qualify for any other retirement.

My letter says that it is backdated to Nov 2015. I didn't retire until 28 Dec 2017. How do I figure out the back pay?

The Retirement calculator on DFAS' website is down and I can't figure out how to calculate it.

The calculator was flawed anyway.

1. Your retired pay is reduced by the amount of VA compensation you receive = zero retired pay remaining

2. 10% CRSC = $140.05 currently

The Historical Rate Tables for 10%
can be found at the linked years at the bottom of the page at THIS LINK <----

3. Regardless of the backdate to November 2015, one cannot receive CRSC when they are NOT in a retired status (per current law).

Thank you Ron! So I should just estimate back to Jan 2018 for back pay then? I am coming up with $2755.28 ($136.24 last year and $140.05 this year, figured through Aug of this year).

Based on the info you provided, yes...

1-31 January 2018 would be the first CRSC accrual month. In my opinion, there is enough time for DFAS to process your award in August so that you receive your first real-time payment on 30 August 2019 since 1 September and 31 August are on weekend. That payment would be for 1-31 August 2019.

Glad to help...Ron

One more question Ron - If my CRSC were to be approved at 100% (I am still waiting on that one to be approved possibly), am I limited to $479.44/month for my CRSC? I'm not sure if I'm doing my calculation correctly.

That is an excellent question.

Chapter 61 retirees with less than than 20 years active duty receive the lesser of

--The CRSC percentage rate and amount associated with the percentage approved by their service (use VA compensation tables)
OR
--The dollar amount of the longevity portion of their retired pay (2.5% x AD or AD equivalent years) x high three average base pay.

Most CH 61 cases I have seen result in the latter...the dollar amount of the longevity portion of retired pay.
