My Overseas Timeline So Far

Oh wow, well at least I have a better idea of what to expect. I am so brand new to this process and trying to learn all I can about the admin side of the house so I do not get boned too hard. As of now, you are correct there is not a VA presence here in Okinawa (just the rep who speaks at TRS). I am just ready for this whole process to be over so I can get on with my life, the last year and a half has been exhausting and I am done getting stuck with needles. I just need a lifestyle change to preserve what I have left. I can't believe at your rank with your experience and obvious familiarity with the whole process, I just a little old SSgt that is searching in a dark with a match light. The COVID is most definitely putting a damper on the whole entire process... I am just hoping the whole PEB be officially submitted with all notes by the end of April. All I really know at this point is a couple weeks ago when I met with the orthopedic surgeon, he recommended a PEB. I found the PEBLO and got the NMA template from him and sent it through my command and gave it back to him. Not sure what the current hold up here, there are skeleton shifts everywhere, its a ghost town. Thanks for the heads up on the process and sharing the documents. I am just hoping to be out by the end of the year.
You have a huge leg up on me, I don't even have a PEBLO. There are no Navy or Marine ones in Europe but there are Army and Air Force...which we can't currently use even though they have the same training. I could literally drive an hour away to get all the appointments necessary for the PEB to start but not having a PEBLO means I can't get it. I have been acting as my own defacto PEBLO but cannot do the VA paperwork for those exams. It's all messed up. I've done a ton of research because I've helped other Marines over the years but never while overseas. It's the opposite of fun.

Brother, that is about the worst time for you to be in this situation... Are you out on MSG or an IA? I wish I could do something for you but I’ve got nothing but moral support to offer, I mean I need to be picking your brain! I hope you can get this all worked out soon.

So neither, I actually came off of MSG and got stationed in Germany. The sole MSgt spot in my MOS in Germany that actually was created right before I picked up and left the MSG program.

The situation just keeps getting dragged on. I get it takes time but no movement for 8 months is ridiculous. The NARSUM and NMA have been done for ages. Literally the only paperwork I need is the VBA-21-0819-ARE that the PEBLO would create and send to a MSC who would then send to an OMSC to get my stuff done overseas. And even more infuriating is if I drop papers to retire I get the same damn exam but it doesn't require a PEBLO to initiate.

Wow, I just don’t understand why it couldn’t be done remotely? I’m also brand new, my NMA is done but idk if my NARSUM has been completed by my PCM yet.

What a nightmare of a process, and to top it off the virus is restricting movement and a lot of manpower...

That's just it. It can be done remotely. They do it in the US all the time. There just isn't a written mechanism that allows it so they are having a hard time understanding how to assign a PEBLO overseas. Plus, it's the system. It is so beyond broken that it has actually taken a lawyer for them to stop trying to process my claim illegally which at the same time broke it.

Logged into MOL this morning to see I finally have orders to Quantico to be entered into the IDES. I know there will still be a long wait but at least I now have orders.

Awesome stuff! I actually met with my PCM today for a routine visit and he said he will have my NARSUM completed this week, been behind because of the COVID. Im sure it will take me a few months to get orders. How far away are you from PCSing, just curious was the average timeline would be when I get orders. Thanks again, great to hear you have some movement.

Gotcha, so I can expect at least a couple months to prepare for PCS.
You should be able to. When asked location preference I also gave them a date preference which was after the school year so my kids would be less affected. Of course they are now doing school online because of the virus but it still is good to think about.

Thats awesome, looking to do the exact same thing. Trying to line it all up with the school year.

You aren't going to believe this. It took 6 days from when the package was sent to HQMC for them to give me orders. Im heading to Camp Lejeune, will figure the process out when I get there. Hopefully it doesn't take too long. Reporting there next month.

Congrats man.

Well, 30 April has come and gone and it would appear the Navy and Marine Corps orders that involve medical boards for personnel overseas have not been updated. I know COVID will have affected it but that doesn't help me get passed this all.

I did receive a letter for the president of the PEB stating my case had been cancelled because I was being processed under the old rules and that my provider would need to resubmit all paperwork if they still felt I warranted a PEB. That was a bad day. I do still have orders to Quantico and am still requesting an ETP to move during the movement restrictions. My command is also using the cancelled PEB as ammo to try and get me transferred to the WWR det in San Antonio since regardless of outcome I am going to retire in there (medical or regular retirement).

I'm tired of constantly being let down by the organization I put 20 good years into. I'm ready to be done and not sure I could even find my pack if someone said to pick it back up. I'm glad it appears my command has my back and is understanding but fuck.

What a ridiculous situation.... I tried to request an ETP, but it didn’t make it past the BN CO. He said I don’t need an ETP because I fall under the category of medical/seperations. It looks like I am still on track to PCS to be pushed through IDES.

After some hard thought, I decided to just drop my retirement package. Even if I eventually get to Quantico for entry into IDES, I would be past the PFIT timeline and would have to appeal. I just don't have anything left in the tank to fight this. Thankfully I am already past 20. Submitted my eBenefits claim today so I can get the same dang exams I've been waiting for, for the PEB. Not bitter, just tired and ready to move on.

I don’t blame you at all! I would probably do the same. Best of luck!

I was told that they do C and P exams just if it requires expensive machines or a specific specialist then you will have to get it down where they can support that. And this was from guys who have processed out and are currently in Okinawa.
I too am starting the IDES process and I am stressing the whole C and P portion so I am hoping I can get it done while in Okinawa or TAD to mainland. Trying to research the whole IDES process for those stationed in Okinawa has proven to be quite frustrating.

Greetings! (From San Diego...)
Sorry I haven’t been active, my family and I PCS’d last month so I can actually start my PEB. It’s crazy though, because I got here having completed the entire med board process, just to be told I have to do it again. So, I am waiting for my appointment with the orthopedist next month to be referred...

I am not sure who told you that, but I do not believe it is correct. I was on Okinawa and received a tour curtailment back to the states to do the VA exams, there are no VA raters overseas. You will receive orders back to the states soon, mine took about a week after the MEB was sent to HQMC. I PCSd in June and just had my first IDES appointment here on Monday. Awaiting VA exams to be scheduled at this time.
