CRSC & CRDP Estimates [indicate which applies]

Hello,

Here is a CRSC estimate based on the information you provided.

1. 5439 high three x 0.75 = 4079.25 retired pay
2. 4079.25 - 3279 amount of VA comp = 800.25 residual retired pay
3. 17.7 active duty equivalent x 0.025 = 44.25% longevity multiplier
4. 5439 x 0.4425 = 2406.76 longevity portion of retired pay
5. Approved CRSC percentage = unknown
6. 2406.76 longevity amount minus 800.25 residual retired pay = 1606.51 maximum CRSC

Based on your incomplete data (approved CRSC percentage not given) you "might" receive from DFAS:
--800.25 residual retired pay
--1606.51 CRSC
TOTAL: 2406.76
You also will received your VA compensation.

The CRSC percentage approved by your service will affect the final computation. The combination of residual retired pay plus CRSC cannot exceed the longevity portion of retired pay.

You can switch to CRDP once you meet the age requirement for reserve retirement.

Thank you for the computations.they were very accurate.

I just was awarded 50% CSRC .

How much pay does this equal?

Thank you

Hello,

Re: "I just was awarded 50% CSRC ."
Note: The 50% CRSC rate for veteran with spouse is: 979.43

a. You have 800.25 residual retired pay per first computation.
b. The combination of residual retired pay plus CRSC cannot exceed the longevity portion of retired pay.
c. If I remember correctly, you have not yet met the age requirement for reserve retirement, but you have 20 good years.
d. DoD 7000.14-R Financial Management Regulation Volume 7B, Chapter 63:
2. Members retired for disability under 10 U.S.C., Chapter 61, with less than 20 years of creditable service computed under 10 U.S.C. § 1208, and who are qualified for CRSC, on or after January 1, 2013, will have the maximum CRSC payment restrictions. The CRSC payment amount, which when combined with any remaining retired pay after VA offset, will not exceed the amount that is equal to 2½ percent of the member’s years of creditable service multiplied by the member’s retired pay base under 10 U.S.C. § 1406(b)(1) or 10 U.S.C. § 1407, whichever is applicable to the member.
NOTE: A retired reserve member, retired under the provisions of 10 U.S.C., Chapter 61, is entitled to CRSC. The gross amount of CRSC determined under paragraph 630801 will be adjusted as required under paragraph 630802. For Reserve Component members with less than 20 years of service as determined under 10 U.S.C. § 12733, the CRSC amount when combined with the amount of retired pay payable to the retiree after reduction for the full VA disability compensation, if any, may not exceed the disability retired pay amount that is equal to 2½ percent times the years of creditable service determined under 10 U.S.C. § 12733 multiplied by the member's applicable retired pay base. For Reserve Component members with 20 or more years of service as determined under 10 U.S.C. § 12733, the CRSC amount when combined with the amount of retired pay payable to the retiree after reduction for the full VA disability compensation, if any, may not exceed the disability retired pay to which the member would be entitled if the member were 60 years old.

e
. Using this part of the law: "The CRSC payment amount, which when combined with any remaining retired pay after VA offset, will not exceed the amount that is equal to 2½ percent of the member’s years of creditable service multiplied by the member’s retired pay base under 10 U.S.C. § 1406(b)(1) or 10 U.S.C. § 1407, whichever is applicable to the member." Your payments from DFAS would be:
(1) Residual retired pay: 800.25
(2) CRSC @ 50%: 979.43 (from the VA compensation tables)
TOTAL from DFAS: 1779.68 which is less than the longevity amount

Comment: Once you attain the RC age requirement for retirement, you could apply for your RC retirement and be eligible for CRDP, which would provide more for you than CRSC @ 50%.

HISTORY.

Here is what I provided earlier:

1. 5439 high three x 0.75 = 4079.25 retired pay
2. 4079.25 - 3279 amount of VA comp = 800.25 residual retired pay
3. 17.7 active duty equivalent x 0.025 = 44.25% longevity multiplier
4. 5439 x 0.4425 = 2406.76 longevity portion of retired pay

Thanks...it is my pleasure.

Ron,

Based off other examples I have read about I tried to compute my estimated CRSC payment can you verify I did this correctly? Thank you in advanced. A little more information about me I served 12 years, 8 months, and 5 days on active duty. I am 70% DOD, 90% VA with spouse and three kids under 18. I estimate my CRSC % to be at 70% that is the one portion I could not find an example of so would I only receive 70% of the 920.18 max CRSC? Also would I still be entitled to the residual 255.82 to add onto the CRSC amount. Thank you again, I found this forum to be extremely helpful through my entire MEB process.

1. 3,675.64 high three x 0.70 = 2,572.00 retired pay
2. 2,572.00 - 2,316.18 amount of VA comp = 255.82 residual retired pay
3. 12.8 active duty equivalent x 0.025 = 32% longevity multiplier
4. 3675 x 0.32 = 1,176 longevity portion of retired pay
5. Approved CRSC percentage = unknown
6. 1,176 longevity amount minus 255.82 residual retired pay = 920.18 maximum CRSC

So if I do get approved at 70% the amount I would receive in CRSC would be roughly $644 a month? Plus the 255.82 residual retired pay, as well as my full VA Compensaation?

Hello @Romero277 ,

Your info:

1. 3,675.64 high three x 0.70 = 2,572.00 retired pay
2. 2,572.00 - 2,316.18 amount of VA comp = 255.82 residual retired pay
3. 12.8 active duty equivalent x 0.025 = 32% longevity multiplier
4. 3675 x 0.32 = 1,176 longevity portion of retired pay
5. Approved CRSC percentage = unknown
6. 1,176 longevity amount minus 255.82 residual retired pay = 920.18 maximum CRSC

Estimate/Comments:

Your item 1 is correct when the cents are dropped.

90% VA with spouse and three kids under 18 = 2,160.18 + (2 x 78) Total: 2316.18. 2572 - 2316.18 = 255.82 residual retired pay. Your item 2 is correct.

12 years, 8 months active duty equivalent is 12.67, not 12.8 (8/12 = 0.666). 12.67 x 0.025 is 31.68% Longevity Multiplier
3675 x 0.3168 = 1164.24 longevity portion of retired pay (CRSC plus residual retired pay cannot exceed this amount)

1164.24 longevity - 255.82 = 908.42 maximum CRSC
Good job on your part. You would receive:
--255.82 residual retired pay from DFAS
--908.42 CRSC from DFAS
--2316.18 VA comp from the VA

Comment:
If the service-approved CRSC percentage results in a rate less than the "longevity minus residual" amount, the formula would be the approved CRSC percentage/amount plus residual cannot exceed the longevity amount. A more simple way of putting this is: CRSC for CH 61 retirees with less than 20 years AD is the lesser of the longevity portion of retired pay or the approved CRSC percentage amount. The combination of CRSC and residual retired pay cannot exceed the dollar amount of the longevity portion of retired pay.

I suspect you will receive the amount similar to your computation.
The approved CRSC percentage amounts are the same as found in the VA compensation tables. See Tables <---LINK

Ron,

Thank you for your feedback. I received my official approval for CRSC today at 70% just like I predicted.

Ron,

I received my crsc approval today for 70%. I am currently receiving a gross monthly pay of $5,150 (70% disabled) with a $2,103 monthly VA waiver (90% with dependant and Special compensation). Should I expect to see any change in my pay?

Thank you Sir

Estimate using info provided a couple of months ago and updated percentage of CRSC approval.

1, Gross retired pay 5150 / 70% = 7400 high three

2. 5150 minus 2103 VA amount = 3047 residual retired pay you keep.

3. 13.83 (13 years and 10 months) x 2.5% = 34.58% longevity multiplier The 13 years and 10 months should be shown on your retirement orders under "disability retirement" 3/4 down on the order page.

4. 7400 x 34.58% = 2558.92 longevity portion of retired pay. CRSC cannot exceed the dollar amount of the longevity portion of retired pay. The combination of CRSC plus residual retired pay cannot exceed the longevity portion of retired pay...as well. Your residual retired pay is MORE than the longevity amount. That results in zero CRSC, irrespective of the CRSC percentage approved.

Using the info you provided, you will receive each month:
--VA comp = 2103
--DFAS residual retired pay = 3047
--DFAS CRSC = zero

Hi, Ron, I have a fun CRDP puzzle for you:

Active Service: 21years 9months.
Disability: DoD 70% (VA 100% = approx $3700; SMC and 2 kids/spouse)
High 3: $4107

NO CRSC

ps. I think I know the answer AND I'd like backup, too.

High 3: $4107

I'll run the numbers in a few minutes (son just walked in).

I will offer that the combination of your residual retired pay after the VA offset and CRDP cannot exceed the longevity portion of retired pay.

In other words, you are going to end up with your longevity retirement from DFAS plus VA comp from the VA.

Estimate:

4107 high three x 70% = 2874.90 retired pay
3700 amt of VA compensation reduces retired pay to zero
21.75 AD years x 2.5% = 54.38% longevity multiplier
4107 x 54.38% = 2233.39 CRDP

CRDP is retired pay, restored and is taxable.

Yes! We did. My husband thought I'd get 70% of my high 3. I told him I didn't think so. I FINALLY WIN! (thank you :) )

Is the 20 years 10 month all active duty? If not, we need active duty equivalent.

It appears you also qualify for a regular retirement. Is that correct?

I understand the 30% DoD.

@RC MEB Assuming the years and months are active duty and you qualify for CRDP, Estimate.

  • 5540 x 30% = 1662 DoD disability (less than longevity)
  • 20.83 months x 2.5% = 52.08% longevity multiplier
  • 5540 x 52.08 = 2885.23 longevity portion of retired pay
  • Your CRDP (since you qualify for a regular retirement) is 2885.23
