Jan 2015-Aug 2019: Served on AD Air Force
Aug 2019: Palace Chased to ANG
Dec 2019: Diagnosed by civilian provider w/PTSD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Depression secondary to MST
Jan 2020: Reported psychiatric medicine prescribed and diagnosis to ANG provider. Was told condition was potentially unfitting and may need to undergo Med Board for Non-Duty related (NDR NILOD) determination
Feb 2020: Submitted personal statement to ANG provider about why my PTSD, Anxiety, and Depression were in fact duty-related because of MST during Drill
~No progress~
Dec 2021: Put on Profile/ AF469 generated for conditions unrelated to mental health (Degenerative Disc Disease/Anaphylactic episodes). No PT test/no deployments/severe duty restrictions. Code 31 marked on AF469. Removed from upcoming deployment.
April 2021: During PHA, ANG Provider directs me to Wing Psychologist. Worsening of symptoms/suicidal ideations led to hospitalization.
April 2021: 9 Days in ER Psyche Ward
April-May 2021: 36 Days at long-term Military inpatient facility. Underwent EMDR/various other therapy. Treatment directed by AD MTF.
May-June 2021: 23 Days of Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
June-July 2021: 17 Days at a different Partial Hospitalization Program
~Was directed by AD MTF to undergo these treatments, but was denied orders/MEDCON during these 4 months, so absolutely no income coming in. Forced to break rent, move states to live with family, and was still slapped with over $3,000 in medical bills even though I was told the Defense Health Agency (DHA) /Tricare would cover everything. Submitted bills to local ANG MTF to get help with reimbursement from DHA with no response. Filed a complaint with IG Office. No response~
Back to May 2021: Was told by Wing Psychologist that due to confidentiality concerns, he could no longer handle my care and was referred to the SAPR Office. Was told in order for treatment to be paid for by DHA, I would need a LOD determination, but the only way to get one is to file a report. So I was basically forced to file a Restricted Report for fear that the over $180,000 in medical bills would be left to me.
Back to June 2021: LOD for Restricted Report was created, but ANG MTF said I would need a second LOD for an actual condition. Was told PTSD is not a condition, but a result of other conditions, so the LOD would have to be for Anxiety.
July 2021: Set up appointments at local VA and began weekly psychotherapy (on 5 different psyche meds at this point)
10 Aug 2021: Filed claim with VA for PTSD due to MST
Sep 2021: LODs for Restricted Report and Anxiety complete.
15 December: Mental Health C and P video telehealth exam (lasted 3 hours)
Jan 2022: Notified of 100% service-connection P and T for PTSD due to MST
5 Feb 2022: AF469 renewed (Code 37 – Medical defect/condition requires MEB or PEB Processing- marked). Told by ANG Provider that they would pursue a duty-related Med Board for my mental health conditions only. Was told the Disc Disease and Anaphylaxis would be considered non-duty so they aren’t going to process anything regarding those conditions)
10 March: Wing psychologist is somehow back to managing my case and asks for additional info so that he can write NARSUM
7 June 2022: AF 469 finally receives all signatures needed for IRILO package to be sent to NGB
8 June 2022: Since ETS was 11 June 2022, I extended 6 months till Dec 2022 so that my Med Board could be processed. (Was told by MTF not to initiate any extension paperwork because I was on Med Hold, but FSS confirmed this was absolutely untrue and that if I didn’t extend, I would have been separated on 11 June. VERIFY EVERYTHING, I could’ve been totally screwed)
10 June 2022: Commander signed AF1185 (CC’s Impact Statement) and recommended “Do not retain”
~Unsure if IRILO package was sent to NGB~
2 Aug 2022: Asked ANG MTF for update. No response.
This process is SLOW. I will have reached 8 years in service by Jan 2023, so I know I won’t be eligible for Concurrent Disability Retired Pay (CDRP), but I’m hoping that if I get at least 30% DoD, I’ll get a disability retirement and Tricare for life and that’s all I’m holding out for at this point.
I know a lot of people are worried about having to do the C and P exams again and I’ve been told I shouldn’t risk messing up my 100% P and T, but I read on the VA website that I can do the C and P exams “for PEB purposes only” …and so as long as “the IDES participant subsequently declines to file a VA claim” my 100% is protected. I posted the link below.

I will continue to update this thread as often as I can to give others some transparency on this whole, convoluted process. It’s been almost 3 years since the “potentially unfitting condition” was identified and yet, I’m still in the pre-DES phase.
