New cases added to reading room

A lot of the ones I read through are denials (almost all). The few approvals I've seen so far in 2020, 2019, and 2018 (I'm working backwards, just looking for clues at how it might go) are one it two complaint cases and mostly 0 and 10%. Meaning to say a bit less complicated, maybe? Maybe...

Received Rating Increase from PDBR Review - How Long to Get Back Pay?

Did they retire you?? If not there's no back pay. If the increase still has you at 20% or less you're not retired and the calculation for separation pay is the same (0-20%). If they retired you, best of luck!

Combat Injured Tax Fairness Act Question

I know it's been awhile since you posted this, but here's what I did: I knew I was single the year I got out, so that was easy (single, no dependents, etc.), I wasn't 100% on my college payments or credits, so I left that off any entitlements or exemptions (I kind of figured they'd either fix...

    Lost PEB

Did you request your C-file? Mine was in there. I also contacted the PEBLO at Walter Reed (where I was MEB/PEB'd) back in 2001/2002. It took him some time but eventually he found the original and was able to send me a copy of the first page (the decision). It didn't contain the MEB portion...

Splitting out conditions subsumed under fibromyalgia and confusing neck/shoulder pain issue

Good luck Goonie. I'm 40% for fibromyalgia and have been fighting for 19 years to get the IBS, Migraines, and Cervical/arm/shoulder issues separated out. I FINALLY got my migraines service-connected in November. The problem is the definition of fibromyalgia that the VA uses allows them to...

PDBR Site looks to be wiped...

I hope if "sun setting" means closing it down, they notify again that it's happening. It's insane the number of people that are eligible that have yet to apply; myself included.

PDBR Site looks to be wiped...

You can search (I did CY2017) and it will bring up the files, it's just not a single place like it was before. I certainly hope it will be back up soon. This is driving me crazy, as I'm about to submit my packet. I actually came on the site (here) today specifically to see if it was just...

Combat Injured Vet Tax Fairness Act 2016

The problem seems to be if you don't get the right person on the phone at the IRS they'll tell you they can't give your a transcript back that far. They have a record they can send you (they initially told me the same thing, and I eventually got the right person). The record isn't a transcript...

VA ensures Veterans have same-day access to emergency mental health care

You are correct. I had a friend post this week that she attempted to utilize the mental health and was basically turned away. My own experience several years ago was similar. I had hoped it had changed, but it doesn't seem to have. Seems like this is just lip service, honestly. You have to...

Combat Injured Vet Tax Fairness Act 2016

I would call DFAS and see what they say. Does he fall within the years that are covered? It seems that's about the cutoff, you'll have to check online, the information should be available. Other than that I don't have much help for you, other than to advise him attempt to call the numbers that...

Combat Vet Disability Tax Act-Disability severance pay

You should have received a 1099INT from the IRS. You will file that with your taxes for 2018. The interest portion is taxable (the rate is pretty high, too).

Combat Injured Tax Fairness Act Question

Use your tax transcript and file an amended return (1040x) for that year, once you receive it. Well worth waiting, especially when I look at your numbers. They pay interest (which will again be taxable as interest income, but it was extra money anyway). My effective date was 2002, my...

Combat Injured Vet Tax Fairness Act 2016

@Perci75 I had to go to the IRS.gov site and print out the instructions for the year of my original tax return (2002) for the 1040x. Then I used the transcript and my DD214 (with the original amount withheld) to piece together the 1040x. I'm still not sure I did it exactly correctly, to be...
