Just wondering if there was any help in securing housing or with getting into a house when you get out for PDRL 60%Dod 100%VA. I’ve had to spend so much money the last 3 months in getting my son and daughter back home before we did because we didn’t renew our lease and have been staying in a hotel the last 3 months it has taken so long due to paper work issues I was so post to take terminal but now I have to sell them all back. They are putting us out on the 21st so we won’t be back till Christmas Eve with no house and no where to go. All of our family will be gone and there really isn’t room at my sisters house I mean we can stay but it is 4 hours from where we are sooost to live I’m trying to get a house before I get home but I don’t know how to prove income so all the apartments are denying me and I really don’t have 3500 to 4K it takes to move into a place it kind of sucks because I called a few places and they make it seem like I’m a bum for asking if they helped. I’m kinda scared because I don’t know how long it’s gojng to take I’ve had to drain my savings the last year because my mother (who is listed as my dependent as well) I take care of as in me and my sister pay for her 24 hour care with help from the state. But I feel like I’m going to be homeless because of this processes

Gba19,

Sorry to hear of your challenges.

Proof of income: Your VA Award letter should be proof of that award. Also, eBenefits has award information you can download as well. That will be proof of more than $3000 per month income.

The receipt of VA compensation will cause the waiver (loss) of the same amount of DOD retirement pay so your retired pay might not be a factor regarding proof of income.

The cost to move into a place depends on location and the apartment or house you choose. I live in a town of 70,000 and a nice 2 BR
apartment rents for $1100-1500. My deposit was $250. I compared several properties before I made my choice.

Through the VFW’s Unmet Needs program, military veterans who have been honorably discharged and have deployed in the last six years, are eligible to receive a grant worth up to $5,000 to assist with basic living expenses, medical expenses, moving costs and child care. Since the assistance is in the form of a grant, no repayment is necessary, and funds are paid directly to the creditors. You might search the Internet for other opportunities.

Good luck,

Ron

Gba19, Sorry to hear of your troubles. I was just briefed during Transition Assistance Program (TAP) that there are VETS centers that may be able to assist you. They have knowledge of programs and access to assistance agencies and groups. I do not know your location so call the POC below and get a local Vet Center. They should be able to point you in the right direction. Best of luck Ron P
