CRSC CALCULATOR

love to try and help. what’s up?

I'm currently in the MEB process waiting on my ratings. I'm very confident they will be 100%. I was hoping to provide you with the information needed to see what I may be looking at for CRSC and see what you came up with...thoughts?

of course. i need what ur crsc percentage will be. your high 3 dod pay. how many years of service. also im assuming you will be at 100 percent va also

Since I'm waiting on my ratings still, these are estimates. But I feel strongly these will be accurate. CRSC: 70% DOD High 3: $4,800. 10 Years. 50% DOD rating (conservative estimate). 100% VA rating.

it looks like crsc caps out at 1200 per month for you. i have attached a screen shot of calculations based on info you provided and pay with no dependants:

Hello,

I agree with Edwards and his remarkable CRSC calculator.

A couple of comments:

1. Edwards had to use the rate for "veteran alone" since no dependent info was provided. I think that was noted by the OP.

2. Time in service, 10 years. I often see that characterization, but it turns out that it is "good years" in the RC, not active duty time or active duty equivalent. The factor for CRSC computation must be the active duty or active duty equivalent. Additionally, it is uncommon to see a precise rounded number for active duty years. Additional months increase the longevity multiplier.

3. Edwards' final product (i.e., the calculator). Every case that I have checked was 100% accurate when using the info provided by the retiree. Thank you again Edwards!

Any help as I’m living in a motel right now working on getting on my feet/situated.

15 year SSG (on leave ETS AUG01 2020)
100% VA (took VA)
60% Army/DOD
Declined army retirement
Not sure how to calculate that or what’s even considered combat related? Any help please brothers.

Hello,

Information necessary for CRSC estimate:
—High three average base pay OR the gross retired pay on DFAS RAS (which is preferred)
—DoD disability percentage
—Active duty years OR active duty equivalent years for those with reserve time (total points divided by 360)
—VA compensation percentage; amount; and dependents (category, number, and ages of children)
—Approved CRSC percentage

—Other type military retirement eligibility info

CRSC info: A Supplement to CRSC Information<---LINK
This is a collection of CRSC information including CRSC case examples. You will to provide a percentage of what you think you will receive.
I do not guess about the CRSC approval percentage. Without that percentage, I can tell you what your maximum might be. It likely will be
15 x 2.5% =longevity percentage
high three x longevity percentage = longevity portion of retirement

keep in mind crsc is not automatic. you have to apply for and prove to your branch of service that the disability is combat related.

keep in mind that crsc is not automatic and has to be applied for and proved to your branch of service that its combat related. for sake of argument lets assume that your high 3 is 4300. based on limited info your crsc compensation would max out at your years of service portion of retirement which is roughly 1600 bucks a month.

Hello all,

I just received my CRSC rating of 70%. I only have my phone and can’t work the numbers. Would anyone be willing to assist? My info is below:

CRSC 70%
high 3 - $5115
VA - 100% PT - $3500
12.9 years active service
Spouse and two children under 18

Comments on the preceding computation.

Again, the Edwards' calculator has proven to be accurate.

70% CRSC with spouse & 2 children under 18: 1,636.17 + 60.00 = 1696.17 from VA compensation tables (one of the ceilings)

12.9 AD years x 2.5% = 32.25% longevity multiplier

5115 high three x 32.25% = 1649.59 precisely as shown by Edwards' calculator. This is correctly shown as the CRSC payable since the longevity portion of retired pay is another ceiling.

Consideration.

There is no reason to doubt that the actual AD time is 12.9 (which is not 12 years and 9 months; it is 12 years and 10.8 months). However, many of the cases I have worked in the past have included a similar presentation to show number of months. In other words, Julio might have wanted the .9 (of 12.9) to show the number of AD months exceeding 12 years as nine. (9/12 = 75%)

IF that was the case here, 12.9 is actually 12.75 (12 years and 9/12th).
That would cause the longevity multiplier to be 12.75 x 2.5% = 31.88% instead of the 32.25% shown in the calculator
5115 x 31.88% = 1630.66 longevity portion of retired pay and the CRSC if the AD was 12 years and 9 months.

Again, Edwards' calculator is accurate. However, occasionally the info received from the retiree is imprecise. Julio's could well be accurate (regarding the .9) but in the past, many cases that I have seen that included a decimal point followed by a number for months... have not been.

could you do a brief estimate for my CRSC?

a. high-3 = $5353
b. 50% DoD = = $2676 gross retired pay
c. 17 Years and 1 months of active duty = 42.5
d. VA = 70% P&T, final rating; w/spouse andno children; $1555
e. CRSC = 60%
f. Permanent Disabled Retired List, transitioned on legacy retirement, not blended retirement

Hello @Aw2man ,

Using your figures...

1. 2676 minus 1555 = 1121 residual retired pay
2. 5353 x 42.5% = ~2275 longevity
3. CRSC @ 60% = 1,251.39
4. Maximum CRSC is amount waived or CRSC approved= 1555 vs.1251.39
5. DFAS will pay
Residual retired pay = 1121
CRSC = 1251.39
Total: 2372.39 (note: longevity is 2275)
6. However, another part of the law limits CRSC when combined with residual retired pay; it cannot exceed the longevity amount....2275 in this case
7. 2372.29 combined, minus 2275 = 97.39 excess
8. CRSC 1251.39 minus excess 97.39 = 1154 CRSC plus 1121 residual = 2275 paid by DFAS (same as longevity)

So, basically I shouldn’t accept crsc because it will be less than my retirement pay?

My retirement pay is 2676 and it won’t be taxed.

Let me rephrase my question.
I get 2275 from dfas but I will still get the 1555 from VA?

For a total of 3830?

Your retired pay will be reduced by the amount of your VA compensation.

If you do not want CRSC to replace part of the loss, that is your choice and one I have never seen previously.

That is correct.

Good luck,
