Substance abuse treatment @ VA - can it be reported back to home unit?

The soldier is realizing that PTSD is the primary issue, and SA is secondary to that. He's finally broken down to ask for assistance, but has no trust in the system. I honestly don't know how to overcome that obstacle other than to recommend treatment outside the MTF's or VA. Without any...

Substance abuse treatment @ VA - can it be reported back to home unit?

Thanks Jason. The person concerned is NG and is avoiding treatment because he is afraid his home unit will be notified of his "problem" and thus cause irreparable harm to his career. His PTSD is rearing its ugly head and he is having trouble coping with his transition back from the sand box...

Substance abuse treatment @ VA - can it be reported back to home unit?

I did find this thread, and checking to see if the law was passed and what it actually will DO to protect the SM. If anyone knows more that I can fall back on to give further advice, I'd appreciate it...

Substance abuse treatment @ VA - can it be reported back to home unit?

A friend of mine is having a problem and I need some help, if you can give it. If a soldier who is still in the military goes to the VA for assistance in recovering from a substance abuse problem, can the VA, in turn, contact the home unit and report the situation to the Army? I need to...

    Military Moving Question

Sorry for the late reply, I was in the middle of a move. :) maparker was kind enough to help me with getting ours done. He helped me more than any other organization could do. ;) Basically, you'll need to find the nearest military transportation office, regardless of the branch of service...

    Military Moving Question

But the good news about DLA? If you are PCS'd due to BRAC, you get a full DLA instead of a partial. You know...the military doesn't want to punish you for something that wasn't your fault in the first place, after all. Too bad they don't do that for disabled combat veterans. I am sure they...

Placed on PDRL but NO new DD214??

Okay, I'll start practicing my speech and get myself a good filing system with sheet protectors for all versions of the updated updated documents. LOL Thanks!

    Military Moving Question

Hey, guess what? I just learned today that during your final move, you don't get DLA (dislocation allowance) at all. It would have been nice if all six departments I spoke to about this had informed us of this tidbit of info BEFORE they told us to go to this department/go to that...

Placed on PDRL but NO new DD214??

Thanks Navy! And Jason...thanks. :) I will get used to carrying all three sets of documents and rehearse the simple explanation so even a simpleton can understand. Do you think that will work? <----who is so frustrated with the Army right now about other things that she could just spit nails!

Placed on PDRL but NO new DD214??

The risk of losing one portion of this set of paperwork makes the DD214 virtually worthless later on...especially if you are using it a decade later and lost the attachments that needed to go with it. An example of the "revised" paperwork issue came within months of getting TDRL orders and...

    Military Moving Question

I just went to our briefing yesterday on the hubs final move. We had to get a two-year extension (you can move up to one year post medical retirement, but can put in for an extension of a year EVERY year for up to five years total). His extension ends next month, so we are finally getting...

Placed on PDRL but NO new DD214??

Funny you should ask that...I came here tonight to ask the very same question because I got the very same answer! Hubs went on PDRL, but no new DD214 followed. He just got an "amended" set of orders to his previous set of orders. I went to the transportation offices in Norfolk to arrange our...

SEN. COBURN STALLS VETERANS' CAREGIVERS BILL -- 11-06-2009

I can't comment without using words that would be against the TOS. So, I'll sit on my hands. LOL

    TDRL

Yep. Like I said, it's all a matter of asking ...and being truthful in your claims. :)

    TDRL

By the way, my husband was given SSDI while still on active duty. So much for "can't have it both ways". Like I said, each state has the right to deny the claim for whatever reason. I've just never seen a veteran out of work and on a medical discharge not given UI when they applied.

    TDRL

There are different kinds of work for different kinds of disabilities. I am not saying the attorney is incorrect, but I have found different information from different sources. I can't cite them now, but it's all a matter of asking and being truthful in your claims. If you can't physically...

    TDRL

I just re-read what I wrote, and realized how confusing that sounded. LOL Each state has it's own rules, but I don't know of any state that will deny UI benefits to veterans, even those receiving SSDI. You are just limited on the amount of income you can receive once you do find a job, and...

    TDRL

Yes. Unless each state is different...which I doubt.
