Admin Separation and MEB

My MEB was initiated 16 January for PTSD due to MST. 04 February, my CoC initiated separation for misconduct. I lost the separation board and from my understanding, now the board findings and MEB go to the CG for final determination. If he decides to go with the board decision and toss the MEB, do I have to start the VA process all over again. Basically it stopped after all my VA exams and I was found unfit due to PTSD (depression, anxiety, insomnia) and in the mental health addendum “dwi may be considered another marker of distress and a maladaptive attempt to to cope with traumatic experiences”. During the board, my BC was asked if she thought a sexual assault victim deserved to be tossed to the street with no help or support. She responded yes.

I have been in therapy for over a year, two months prior to the incident and have been on three different medications. In the midst of this, I had to have surgery on my foot and am in physical therapy. I am worried that I will have to start the VA process all over again and will possibly go months without treatment or physical therapy. From what I hear, they say it’s rare that the separation authority doesn’t go with MEB, but I have lost faith in my CoC.

While others can better explain your options related to the MEB being tossed or not, I can speak about the VA side...

Your VA exams are good for one year. Try to collect up the DBQs from each exam for your own records. The DBQs can also be helpful to a VSO should you elect one to help you later.

I have all of them. Only thing I’m going to have to add is the surgery. Because of the separation requirements, I’m now two weeks behind on physical therapy. Do you know how administrative separation works with the need to continue physical therapy? Like am I just SOL until VA makes a decision?

There are a few options for health care coverage at separation. There are many ways to qualify. Below are the options on the Tricare website and the VA websites with some overlap. The VA refers to that access by "group" prioritization.

Additionally, if you would like mental health based therapy, the Veteran's (Vet) Center offers free counseling to current and former members. It's funded by the VA, but you do not need a VA rating to attend. They also offer remote counseling if needed.
