AF MEB Just started two weeks ago

Hello, 3 years in Security forces here. Two weeks ago my pcm recommended me for a meb. Its something I have been wanting for a while now and ill explain why.

I was diagnosed with Bilateral Achilles tendonitis on both feet about 1.5 years ago, I have gone through physical therapy, numerous prescriptions and even surgery on my left foot recently. I have a herniated disk in my lower back, Sleep apnea/Hypnagogic Hallucinations and cubital tunnel in my right hand. My biggest problem is my Achilles tendons, I cant stand more than 5 minutes or even make it through the local wal mart without being in great pain. I decided not to get the surgery on my right foot because I don't feel it did much for my left.

I was wondering whats next in my process I don't have the slightest clue as to what I need to do now. All I was given was a profile that says, "This member is undergoing a MEB to determine medical fitness for continued worldwide duty and retention." I wasn't given any instructions or told what to do yet. I just want to make sure I do everything right. I would appreciate any tips or advice for future reference, im pretty nervous/excited about all this.

You have to wait until your coded "code 37" in the MPF system. It stops them from deploying you or PCSing basically your not going anywhere until it's over once that happens even if you had orders.

After that you will be assigned a PEBLO at the clinic and they will give you a bunch of hand outs and have you fill out some forms just saying you've been notified of the process. The first thing will be your PCM writing a narrative summary of all your medical conditions and how they prevent you from doing you job. At the same time the PEBLO will notify your commander/shirt of your " intake into the IDES process " which includes a request for the commanders intent letter. That is where your supervision outlines either how useless you are or how great it is having you make their coffee everyday and manning your squadrons snack bar. Basically if you wanted and could convince your commander he could argue that you're still useful. For me they just forwarded it to my NCOIC and my supervisor and I filled out most of it. The commander has his own section but usually just agrees with whatever your boss sends back to him.

After all that is done the package is sent to the DAWG/AFPC at the clinic and they decide the first fit or unfit. If it's unfit they let the VA know send them your medical records and they look for all the conditions to evaluate you on at the C&P's. Then there's either a meeting or a teleconference they ask you what you want to claim I said yes to everything then told them about 6 more things they "forgot" to add. It's important you know everything in in your records that can be rated. Www.militarydisabilitymadeeasy.com is a good resource site.

That should get you started, next time your in the clinic go to medical records and request a copy of yours, mental and dental are separate have to go to their clinics to get it if you need them.

Just understand that sometimes it seems like nothing is happening, especially in the beginning. At least that is how it was for me. Make sure you have copies of every bit of you medical records! Start getting them now! Especially all the doctors notes and test results from off base. Keep a copy, but also make sure they get into your military medical records. This will make everything easier later. I went through everything I had and identified all the evidence for the conditions that I had and made sure it would support my claims, tab them, note pages, whatever you want to do. Use the website above to make sure you characterize the issues accurately and honestly so that you get them rated properly but also so you know how they might be rated.

This websites is an invaluable resource, welcome!

So a little update here, and thankyou for your replies by the way.
I needed to print another copy of my profile, pulled it up and saw that code 37 is no longer checked and the paragraph about the MEB has disappeared. Im kinda freaking out right now, wondering why it changed and maybe they denied me before it even started. What can I do from here?

All you can do that I can think of is make an appointment with your PCM and if you haven't already talk to any specialist doctors if you can get them to suggest MEB if that's what you want, did you check the dates? Maybe it's an old profile?
