Army IDES Timeline - Fort Gordon

Good info, thank you.
As I understand it, there is a possibility that the VA rating (%) can be reduced over time as you are re-evaluated, but the DoD rating (%) never changes.
Also, if you receive a severance pkg/payment, I do not think you collect from the VA until the balance of the DoD vs. VA is paid back because the DoD offsets the VA.
I think there are exceptions that allow you to collect both at the same time. I could be wrong.

If you get a severance the VA won’t pay you for that claim that you got the severance for from the DOD. It would be just the unfitting condition(s). You would still receive VA benefits for all other claims

I was not aware it worked that way.
So after the severance is 'recouped' by the VA for the unfitting condition(s), then your VA payment would increase to compensate you for the unfitting condition(s)?

Correct. Honestly, if you’re not worried about having Tricare it can be a pretty good amount of money to leave with depending on your rank/ time in service. It can be a nice cushion to basically start over with. For me, I prefer the tricare because I have a family and my VA rating for unfitting condition was maxed, but it can go either way just depending on what you prefer. I don’t see either as a negative they both have benefits

I think your process has moved along fairly quickly, but sometimes its how long it feels, as opposed to the actual days. My timeline is below.

21 AUG - Enrolled in IDES
28 AUG - First Contact/Appointment with PEBLO and first contact/appointment with VA MSC
4 SEP - 1st C&P exam
18 SEP - First conversation with OSC attorney
24 SEP - Last C&P exam
(Govt shutdown)
16DEC – Dismissed my OSC Attorney
18 DEC – Met with new OSC Attorney
30 DEC – Received call from VA about the new prescription case
15JAN – Received NARSUM (unfit for duty, but was missing findings/information from the VA exams)
19JAN – Requested an IMR

Depending on how many years you have in the military and how old you are, it may be worth it to appeal, endure the wait as best as you can until it is complete, because receiving a pension (30% or more) will last your entire life. At least, that is what I keep telling myself, but not hearing a single update from the end of September 2025 until January 2026 was difficult for me, both mentally and emotionally.
Yeah.. Mine was no update from the end of October until the end of January, only reason I got updates was due to me pestering my PEBLO almost every few days after December lol

Just curious but was your VA rating really bad or something? Yes if you’re 30% or more DoD you technically are retired and *could* get a pension, however, the VA pension is typically way more and completely cancels out the DoD side anyway, and you get the VA one no matter what DoD % you have (severance or retired). You might know this info but if not just wanna make sure you aren’t waiting for no reason or misunderstanding.
My total percentages, if VA math didn’t work the way it did, I’d be at 510% lol, I have 2 60%s, 3 50%s, 2 40%s, and like 19 10%s with some in between. Honestly not too sure why more conditions weren’t added to the DoD ratings, with half of the VA conditions being unfitting, but here we are. I did end up concurring, after talking with legal they advised I’d have around the same odds with getting 1 condition fixed from a pre-existing diagnosis, I’d just have to wait a few years when I’m out, which I’m fine with. And regardless, even without Tricare, I’ll be fine, my wife will get me that anyways as she is about to retire as well. For me, it was mostly for the title

30 percent provides Tricare for yourself and dependent and senior service members may qualify for more than what the VA can pay out. I think VA disability payment amount is not guaranteed. I think a med mil retirement payment is arguably more stable-not sure.

Hello all, just posting my timeline to see if it's slow or normal, and if there's anything I can do to speed it up.

02SEP25 - Referred to MEB
05SEP25 - IDES Brief
17SEP25 - Signed Counseling
01OCT25 - first C&P exam
05OCT25 - last C&P exam
17OCT25 - Received my exams and sent to a MEB Provider
22OCT25 - Received and signed my NARSUM
24OCT25 - Sent to the PEB
07JAN26 - VA Claim closed
08JAN26 - Proposed ratings sent to PEB

It has been roughly 2 weeks and still nothing about my proposed ratings or DA199. My Peblo said it is "Pending PEB Signature" as of last Thursday.
The current waiting time for DA 199 and VA ratigs from the PEB back to your PEBLO is between 45-60 days
