Back pay

Everything is confusing. I finally received my CRSC payments, two now, never knew it existed until recently. Anyway, I contacted DFAS about back pay for six years and was told I was not eligible. Rated at 30% and VA only rated me at 20%. I received disability from both, always offset when I received cost of living. Is this correct? Thanks for any help you can provide. Lost a fight with a Hoffman device so very long ago. War games, M1 tanker.

what..you not getting any back pay? that's impossible to not get one if you qualify.

1. Were you active duty or reserve?
2. when did you medically retired?
3. When was the approved crsc condition(s) was service connected by VA?
4. What's your total VA rating ? and CRSC rating?

just trying to understand your situation before giving an advice

Active Duty, less than 3 years
2. when did you medically retired?
1986
3. When was the approved crsc condition(s) was service connected by VA?
Yes, all service connected. I was approved for CRSC in February, did get back pay to filing date. I am now 40% now with Army and 70% with VA. VA rating changed in June, 2024. From 20%. Army went from 30% to 40% when my CRSC was approved

See above

Okay, so you received back pay to filing date.
But you wondering why you didn't get any backpay for 6 years.
When you medically retired in 1986, Did you receive a VA rating together with your medical retirement? because that's how it's done now.
Like me, when i was medically retired, I received 80% Army, VA 100%.
If you did not receive a rating from VA at your retirement in 1986, What year did you 1st receive your VA rating that CRSC approve?

I retired and received 10% from VA right away. The Army originally rated me at 20% but I fought it and it was changed to 30%. The following year VA was changed to 20% when I applied for benefits. A VSO fought for me back then but I didn’t matter, VA left me at 20%. My current disability, actual injury was recently changed to 40% but entire VA rating of 70% is rated as service connected, nothing is secondary. When I applied for CRSC, they asked for my VA rating and then changed it from 30% to 40% to match VA rating I presume.

I hope I answered all your questions. I applied for CRSC right after receiving my VA 70% rating. Applied in June, settled in October. Filed CRSC in October.

okay. But remember, you can get a VA rating and it not eligible for CRSC, even if VA rates it.
It's for the reason I ask
What year did you 1st receive your VA rating that CRSC approve?

Example:
10%-tinnitus (Va approve in 1987)- crsc denied it
20% TBI (Va approved in 2020) -crsc denied it
30%- low back pain( VA approved in 2021) - crsc approved it in 2025

In this example- even though tinnitus is approved by VA, since CRSC never approved it as "combat" it's useless
the 30% LOW BACK PAIN- is approved by VA, and was approved by CRSC. So that condition would get BACK PAY back to 2021 because it's still within the 6 year window, since it was approved in 2025.

Let's say THE LOW BACK PAIN, was approve by VA in 2012, but CRSC approved it in 2025. The DFAS would only pay it back to 2019. That would be the 6 year limit.
In this situation, the effective date would still say 2012 by the Army, but they not the ones paying it. It's DFAS and they max it at 6 years.

Hope you understand.

How would I know when CRSC approved anything at any other time? I applied for CRSC only once and that was this year. My 20% VA rating was in 1987, I was retired in 1986. My 20% rating was for the specific injury only. Fast forward to my filing in June, 2024. VA rates me at 70% and 40% of that is the specific injury. CRSC approved the 40% in March of this year, back pay to December 2024. But not eligible for 6 years previous. I am confused, sorry.
