Best States for Disabled Veterans

MiTT,

Here are a few websites that give further gouge on West Virginian vet benefits:

Military.com's BLUF on WV vet benefits

West Virginia DVA site IRT vet benefits

PDF document giving more detailed gouge from retirement homes to license plates for vets.

One thing I've noticed is that West Virginia seems to give more benefits to 100% T&P vets than lesser-rated vets - kind of B.S., so I think I'm going to do my part to reach out to my local state congressman and ask why. I'm not personally knowledgeable about outdoor benefits, as I tend to keep to myself, and only go out when I need to...but that's another discussion for another time.

Regardless of benefits/no benefits, West Virginia still beats the DMV with property taxes and overall cost of living. I was able to get a 1 acre property, 3 bed-2.5 bath, 2 car garage home for 190k. My annual property tax is ~ $1100, and the home met VA home loan standards. I couldn't spend anything CLOSE to 190k inside the beltway (around DC) and get a decent house in a decent neighborhood.

Oh, and I've always wondered what's with the huge satellite dishes over at Ft. Detrick. You can see them down the road from the Barquist Army Health Clinic. Maybe the Army's spooks work there??? LOL. Seriously though, had I not moved to West Virginia and got my PCM reassigned to Ft. Detrick, I would be a veteran right now AND still suffering from all my issues. Thankfully, my doctor actually LISTENED to me (opposed to my Navy docs through my career), and I am now going through the IDES process a year after I was supposed to separate. I can't change my body and pain, but I know how d*mn lucky I am, as there are vets who got shown the door with unresolved medical issues.

That is a great idea......legalbeagle...and best of luck writing your state congressman....

LOL- who knows, lot of "science fiction" written and spoken about Fort Detrick... believe it was also actually on a episode of TV show "The Americans" ..... see for example only, website: Fort Detrick - Wikipedia "Fort Detrick" From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia then look under "In popular culture".....????

Anyway. wonder if you are anyone else knows anything about Kentucky and how it is for veterans... oddly among the great number of out of state tags and car stickers abundant in LA's Eastern shore are UK- University of Kentucky- stickers and license plates! Know UK in Lexington, KY huge medical school and works with US VA there.....as many universities do...?

Only few similarities I know of between LA and KY are cave systems such as the below for an and example only:

- https://www.google.com/destination?q=mammoth+cave+national+park&rlz=1C1PRFI_enUS778US778&site=search&output=search&dest_mid=/m/0hr86&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj_65fLm73gAhUBTt8KHT29DH0Qri4wJnoECBEQAw#dest_mid=/m/0hr86&tcfs=EhoaGAoKMjAxOS0wMy0wMxIKMjAxOS0wMy0wNw "Mammoth Cave National Park-National park in Kentucky"

- List of Caves in Alabama: Locations and Map - StartCaving "List of Caves in Alabama: Locations and Map" Written by Jim Belt

-https://www.google.com/search?q=state+US+most+natural+cave+systems&rlz=1C1PRFI_enUS778US778&oq=state+US+most+natural+cave+systems&aqs=chrome..69i57.18401j0j8&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Guess above info would be great disabled vets into spelunking???

The other similarity between KY and LA, I can think of is horses and horse breeding? I mean one town in LA's Baldwin County actually has a real Polo Field...among other things....???

Anyway, would be interesting to know what anyone out there "disabled veteran" wise actually knows about the Great State of Kentucky?

Thanks

Leagalbeagle- by the way between Fort Detrick, something I never knew existed "National Reconnaissance Office" From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (Redirected from US NRO) until mentioned by local vet at for example only, National Reconnaissance Office - Wikipedia, the biography for City Council President Local Town in LA's Bio at, for example only, Fairhope City Council | City of Fairhope, AL and all the US Military contractor's and other US Government Organizations all Florida-Alabama-Mississippi-Texas Gulf Coast, as well as number "prominent" authors that resided LA's Eastern Shore that were associated at one point US Military Intelligence, during their Military Careers, and the role Alabama played in arms manufacturing during the US Civil War as well as both World Wars, a good science fiction writer or true "conspiracy theorist" could in fact have a field day....perhaps...?????? Wonder if NRO will get folded under US Space Force..as seems yet again redundant functions..in Federal Government but could be wrong...????

(PS: still issues this web-site!)

Leaglebeagle- you got me to laughing... as throw in a few North American Ley Lines, ala movie "Ghost Busters", etc...for example only, and see for example only web-address: north american ley lines - Google Search, and as stated authors such as JD Salinger, W.E.B. Griffen, etc.... (see following web sites for example only: J. D. Salinger - Wikipedia , Fairhope, Alabama - Wikipedia , The creative people in Fairhope - Leslie Anne Tarabella ) as well as simply the location of Baldwin County relative North Florida Pan-handle and Texas, one could simply have perhaps their own Southern "Area 51" LOL,LOL,LOL.... if one were into such things....perhaps or simply open to the "possibility"...????

Anyway- pretty funny..and thanks for the laugh....

Although am very curious about Kentucky, if anyone knows were stacks up for disabled veteran friendly.....?????????

Thanks Leaglebeagle.....

Leaglebeagle - ALL- was hoping for some "boots on the ground" insight into "Commonwealth of Kentucky" but barring that this is what I found out, and perhaps others interested as well per below web-sites, for example only:

Surprised to learn per second web-site listed above state of Alaska number one, supposedly, and Kentucky is 21st......and Alabama is number 10 due apparently "large number veteran owned businesses" ......

Anyway hope this assist others, and would still like hear someone "experience" Kentucky......?????

Leaglebeagle - ALL- thanks.....

PS:
As with most things, there is always an upside and a downside, take for instance above web-article "The Best States for Veterans-SmartAsset" while it states specifically (below quoted/cited directly from listed article in bold "italic"): "Alabama cracks our top 10 because it has the highest veteran business ownership rate in the country. More than 11.2% of businesses in the Yellowhammer State are veteran-owned. The state’s veterans also have a relatively high income after housing – $29,025 on average."

Take for instance the $29,025 income number after housing, and say one, for example only, was a 100% disabled veteran making per, for example only, at web-address : Veterans Compensation Benefits Rate Tables - Effective 12/1/18 - Compensation "$3,057.13" at 100% disabled rate, then potentially add in Social Security income...., then example disabled vet would be in fact making more than the $29, 025 listed for veterans in Alabama, as well as perhaps some First Responders- one could potentially see where some human elements could factor in, especially if disabled veteran, as example only again, not missing any limbs or wheel chair bound- and perhaps not even then, irrespective of fact might have numerous other issues unseen "naked" eye.....????????

Just something to think about, perhaps, in one's decision cycle to re-locate, as well as other "implications" regarding large number veteran owned businesses- both good and some no so.......potentially? Could be wrong...and please correct me if so.....as the "human nature" element is always a factor" in most things....?????

Leaglebeagle - ALL- hope above assists, and might be interested as well in below for example only- especially when utilizing "emojis" :

- Emoji are showing up in court cases exponentially, and courts aren’t prepared

Leaglebeagle - ALL - thought might be interested in following, for example and information only, in Kentucky- see below web-address if interested:

- Conservative think tanks praise Gov. Bevin for healthcare policies

- The Health Care Choices Proposal: Charting a New Path to a Down Payment on Patient-Centered, Consumer-Driven Health Care Reform

Additionally, thought some might be interested in following definitions, for example and information only, please see bleow if interested:

- Definition of SOCIALIZED MEDICINE

- Definition of SOCIALISM

- Definition of NATIONALISM

- Definition of NATIONAL SOCIALISM

- Definition of COMMUNISM

It is interesting, perhaps, when one compares normal English Dictionary with the APA Dictionary of Psychology by the American Psychological Association.....

Take fore example and information only, the US VA's PRRTP Programs, see below web-address as example only...:

- Psychosocial Residential Rehabilitation Treatment - Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System

Per the APA Dictionary mentioned above copyright 2007, on page number 756- "Psychosocial Rehabilitation" is defined as {following quoted/cited from APA Dictionary of Psychology-2007- page 756 in bold "italics"} : "the process of restoring psychological, behavioral, and social skills to individuals after mental illness, often with assistance from specialized professionals using focused programs and techniques. It aims to help individuals who have been residing in mental institutions or other facilities (e.g. prisons) to reenter the community."

Anyway Leaglebeagle - ALL- thought might be of interest to some out there, perhaps...... could be totally wrong, and if so please correct me????????

Leaglebeagle-ALL: at risk being accused hijacking a thread, simply thought would further update some things may be of interest to those considering relocated Gulf Coast Region- so if interested please see below web-links for example and information only- comments for reason posted only:

- mining Baldwin County Alabama - Google Search (Neighborhoods/Sub-divisions ,etc..being supposedly built on, over or near "expended" mines- "dredge ponds as they supposedly refer to them locally...???)

- https://www.facebook.com/Baldwin-County-Genealogical-Society-1681643152158993/ (IAW a local vet supposedly checked a local library this organization has only working old school micro-fiche readers in local Daphne-Floey-Fairhope area....???)

- genesight genetic testing - Google Search (DNA utilized trace family history, etc.... Kesslar AFB Biloxi supposedly has only local Genetics Lab in Region supposedly, per loacl veterans, MD's etc....???)

- searcy + meaning - Google Search

- Searcy Name Meaning, Family History, Family Crest & Coats of Arms

(Following quoted-cited bold "italics" from listed website above name "Searcy" can mean "Their name, however, is a reference to St. Saire, Normandy, the family's place of residence prior to the Norman Conquest of England in 1066. Alternatively, the name could have been a trade name for someone who was "an assayer of metals." Interesting, given local "mining" operations and issues go along with them, etc.....???? Additionally, local vet did "time" Searcy MH Hospital mentioned in Post #47- Searcy Hospital had very ancient X-Ray Machine and would immediately take pateint X-Ray etc...and send for recycling to extract the silver, etc...in them...for reference on this and example only please see web-address: silver recovery x ray film - Google Search ) [Also interesting Gulf Coast VA/VISN16 was still utilizing old style X-Ray machines..etc... at facilities like HQ Gulf Coast VA in Biloixi, MS....UTC recently or still might be....???? If recycling X-Rays and other devices for silver and or salvage, were does money go.....interesting question perhaps a SuperModerator may know answer to...like does US VA have something like DRMO, etc....????]

Anyway Leaglebeagle-ALL hope this assists those considering relocating Gulf Coast Region of USA..could be wrong (?) so please correct and hopefully not hijacking a thread...if so SuperModerator please advise??????

Leaglebeagle-ALL: anyone from the State of Montana? Know local veteran visited Yellowstone National park recently and other whom visited whilst in transit to from East-West Coast , places like Washington State and Alaska. Yellowstone was phenomenal by all accounts and lots folks from various industries, like entertainment industry, buying houses and property nearby? Is this still the case, and can average veteran "afford" anything nearby Yellowstone and/or Mount Rushmore- in Black Hills??? Also, a veteran stated while at Yellowstone, saw "foreign" tour buses with Russians, etc..on board and wondered how got there....i.e. did bus cross on a ferry from Russia to Nome Alaska etc....? So below, out of curiosity and for example/information only may want to see following web-links:

- Yellowstone National Park - Book Tickets & Tours | GetYourGuide.com

- From Russia's rarely seen 'Yellowstone,' a plea for tourists

- World Heritage

- russia analyst blow up yellowstone - Google Search

Anyway, hopefully some those veterans from Pacific Northwest can hopefully answer some of the above from an actual "boots on the ground" perspective, which is much better than anything else, normally.....?????

Thanks...and greatly appreciate all feedback...hopefully some land out in Montana etc...near places like Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore-Crazy Horse, still affordable veterans..but could simply be wrong and appreciate any correction??????
