Once again best wishes those contemplating a permanent relocation USA or elsewhere...... and may want to factor in as well: Sister city - Wikipedia
Thought do a quick follow-up on "Sister Cities" as those withe vet owned businesses or contemplating relocation and opening a business might find useful????

From, once again, web-link, for example only Sister city - Wikipedia the following in "quotes" is provided- "Sister cities or twin towns are a form of legal or social agreement between towns, cities, counties, oblasts, prefectures, provinces, regions, states, and even countries in geographically and politically distinct areas to promote cultural and commercial ties.[1] The modern concept of town twinning, conceived after the Second World War in 1947, was intended to foster friendship and understanding among different cultures and between former foes as an act of peace and reconciliation,[2][3] and to encourage trade and tourism.[1] By the 2000s, town twinning became increasingly used to form strategic international business links among member cities.[4][5] "

Take for example Alabama only and number of veteran owned business at: Alabama Veteran Owned Business Numbers | VOSBs and SDVOSBs in Alabama as simply an example (see in "quotes" below from listed article)
"
GEOGRAPHICAL AREAALL FIRMSVETERAN OWNED
(at least 51%)

UNITED STATES27,110,3622,449,4771,220,841
Alabama382,62845,09919,402
Percentage of U.S.1.4%1.8%1.6%
Percentage of VOSB / SDVOSB Alabama businesses:11.8%5.1%
AL: 11.8% vs. the national state average: 9.04%+2.76% (31% Higher)
"

Then for example only, might want to visit some following web-sites, if business has potential of going international-perhaps:

- List of sister cities in the United States - Wikipedia

-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sister_cities_of_Atlanta see in "quotes" as example only list from cited web-link:

"
Atlanta has 17 sister cities, as designated by Sister Cities International, Inc. (SCI):[1][2]

Well hope this greatly assist's some veterans potentially considering relocated with a business or relocating hoping to start a business...particularly if in US National Guard, as face significant issues-challenges this regard when Federalized by US Government as have to leave a lot behind or to care of others while deployed or other when Federalized, and perhaps planning on going international, as well....??????

There was also an interesting article on "A Cold War Against The Communists" by Earl Rickard in the AUG Issue of VFW Magazine on pages 34-36 about US service members whom served in Russia "Archangel", etc... and US Service Member bodies left behind...but could not find on internet....? However, did find following opportunity those wishing to try their luck at "writing" at web-address: Essay Contests
Thought, once again follow-up, perhaps a few opportunities those with writing, or photographic skills may want to explore along the Gulf Coast, as taking pictures of historic buildings (other objects, nature scenes, etc..) and art can be supposedly quite therapeutic!? Those interested may want to see following links as examples only:

Additionally some veterans service organizations offer contests such as these, so those interested see below for example only:

Those National Guard may be interested in the following, if considering relocation as well, for potential units:

Claudia J. Kennedy - Wikipedia (oddly supposedly lots of veterans Gulf Coast area associated former high ranking US Military officers so posted as example only!)

Well hope, this further assists in any vets' possible relocation plans themselves or their families......as well perhaps assist other with creative talent utilize it therapeutic purposes...???

Did not know where to place this resource from Vet News: "Free Fly Fishing, Free Wildland Fire Fighter Training, USDA Veteran Farmer/Rancher Aid "available at supposedly "116 Vet Facilities"across the SA- so simply decided this was the place? Those interested please see: Free Fly Fishing for Veterans Provides Serenity and Connection - VAntage Point

And:

Apparently- even though in Mississippi and Florida-from internet search- "Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing" is not officially partnered with Gulf Coast VA System, sort of like Warrior Cane Project : Cane Masters Custom Canes for Self Defense and Fitness, Best Custom Canes and Self Defense Systems and many, many other opportunities for veterans and their families-caregivers..... like potentially Warriors' Ascent: FREE Veteran & First Responder PTSD Program and Warriors' Ascent Academy of Healing for Veteran & First Responder PTSD , as an example only...??????

Per the above- SHARE in Atalanta had similar on song writing, for veterans..... which for those inclined might be a good possible business venture vicinity Fairhope, AL and/or Baldwin County Alabama, as the area surrounding the Fairhope Alabama Public Pier is already utilized similar events, and the Mayor wants-wanted an entertainment sort of district, etc... see the below?

One would of course have to obtain right permits and permissions, etc... See below, as example if interested:

This would be a good location-area to host things like a "Rave" (see for example:Urban Dictionary: Rave ) along lines of "Burning Man" (see for example: Burning Man - Wikipedia ) or since, Fairhope AL comprised all sorts and "Artist Community," perhaps even a "Love Parade" via the following for example: Love Parade - Wikipedia ....... perhaps for those VETS with organizational skills and Public Event hosting-ticketing, ....?????????

Anyway it is tragic Gulf coast VA/ VISN16 appears to be so far behind other US Dept. Vet Affairs Systems in getting vets involved things like "Project Healing Waters" etc....???

Hope this helps at least one vet, their family-caregiver, out there.......

Dawned on me about "Vet News' emails- that I do not think US Dept. Vet Affairs providers receiving or if so not perhaps sharing items within with veterans and/or requesting their VA System look at partnering with some of the listed agencies like "Project Healing Waters" .....????? Does anyone know if VET News sent to Providers as well as veterans?????

This would be a good location-area to host things like a "Rave" (see for example:Urban Dictionary: Rave ) along lines of "Burning Man" (see for example: Burning Man - Wikipedia ) or since, Fairhope AL comprised all sorts and "Artist Community," perhaps even a "Love Parade" via the following for example: Love Parade - Wikipedia ....... perhaps for those VETS with organizational skills and Public Event hosting-ticketing, ....?????????
Thought would follow-up on above as the Fairhope Pier local would be great for generating fog- via dry ice, etc..-if permissible US EPA, etc..-hosting either rafts with burning fire's-pyrotechnics or even like in Europe where on occasion "mock/fake burn-illuminate as such a Castle" and could possibly be done with a ship or ships of some sort....??? But once agin would need get correct permission from some the following, those potentially interested this Vet Business idea..???? (Ships for "mock burning-illumination" could possibly be obtained, if still float at, for example: Alabama's Official Travel Guide - Alabama.Travel - Local Tips for Your Alabama Vacation or "Ghost Fleet Site")

For security and other issues perhaps have contact:

It could sort of be a annual or bi-annual event like Sturgis Motorcycle Rally 2019 - Concerts, Music Festival or see Sturgis Motorcycle Rally - Wikipedia that an Entrip Vet could possibly get "exclusive rights to host"...maybe????? Furthermore, the local Masonic Lodge (see for example only: Greeno Lodge No. 598 F & AM ) has the "Widows Sons Masonic Riders" that could possibly assist such an endeavor as well.....?????

Those interested in "even like in Europe where on occasion "mock/fake burn-illuminate as such a Castle"" see for example only:

Well hope this assists some enterprising veteran(s) out there as well as if anyone knows US Dept. Vet. Affairs providers receiving email copy "Vet News"???????

Indian Health Service / Tribal Health Program (IHS/THP) - Community Care (below excerpt copied-cited from listed web-site in "quotes" below)

"Indian Health Service / Tribal Health Program (IHS/THP)
icon medical cross and indian feathers
To improve access to care for American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) Veterans, VA works with the Indian Health Service (IHS) and Tribal Health Programs (THP) to reimburse the cost of care provided to eligible Veterans at IHS and local THP facilities. Through reimbursement agreements between VA and IHS/THP facilities, care is provided to Veterans closer to home in a culturally sensitive environment.
If you are an eligible AI/AN Veterans, you do not need preauthorization to receive care through an IHS facility or a THP facility that has a reimbursement agreement with VA, and you do not have to pay a VA copayment. However, in Alaska, due to the rural nature of the state and the limited presence of VA there, reimbursement agreements also cover eligible non-AI/AN Veterans. Preauthorization is required and you may be subject to VA copayments."

Hope this assist at least one veteran and their family-caregiver, etc.....???

Just learned local VA Vet, on some of the above, that US VA Providers can "subscribe voluntarily" to VA News emails and that at New VA OPC in Mobile AL, all VA providers supposed be seeing "one patient at least" by VTC supposedly end this Fiscal year..humph?????

Furthermore, the New MOPC in Mobile AL, does not even have pharmacy as well as 24/7 ER.... and one looked for Congressional Bill that actually authorized the building and funding of the New VA OPC in Mobile AL, but could not find it...???? however found some of the following on VA Mission Act of 2018 and other things some might find interesting if so, please see below:

In keeping with VA Recreation Therapy and Creative Arts Therapy Careers - Rehabilitation and Prosthetic Services and About Recreational Therapy | NCTRC as well as USDA announces $16 Million funding opportunity to support Veteran farmers and ranchers - VAntage Point from "Vet News" dated 07/31/2019 thought would post a few things Gulf Coast Vet's residing this location or considering relocating might find of interest??? If so please see below:

Per above listed web-article the following is cited in "quotes" -
"“But the main element of this is recreational fishing. I definitely got an eyeful of that this weekend at the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo. That was really, really a joy. We do a great deal to support the recreational fishery in the Gulf and nationally. It’s big business.”"

"Gallaudet said commercial sales alone in recreational fishing account for $208 billion annually, generating about $62 billion in personal income. Other indirect impacts are valued at $97 billion."

So wonder if Marina at Keesler AFB, MS right down street Gulf coast VA HQ in Biloixi MS offers anything like free fishing trips Gulf Coast VA vets????? See below web-link if interested:

Additinally vetws may be interested in following whom have fishing as a hobby....???

If vets Gulf Coast VA/VISN-16 have questions about possible "robust" (???) "Recreational Therapy Program" suggest trying contact some of the following:

OEF/OIF vets, etc...:

However may be difficult getting a hold anyone Gulf Coast VA Leadership Team and supposedly,, per vets, in past the Publica Affairs Office Gulf Coast VA collected "tell It To The Director" forms etc.. so may want try as well, if interested:

"Public Affairs Office at (228) 523-5959 or (850) 912-2380"

For just released or families of inceracerated vts looking to get slowley back on feet via either "Occupational Threapy/ Recreational Threapy" suggest:

"Veterans Justice Outreach Specialist Contacts
Alabama
Birmingham, Birmingham VA Medical Center, Ahmad Brewer
Mobile/South Alabama, VA Gulf Coast Health Care System, David Neslen
Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center, William Adams
Tuskegee, Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System East Campus, Marguerita High "

Forgot some MWR Facilities vic. Gulf Coast VA-VISN-16, so hopefully Gulf Coast VA/ VISN-16 like veteran's health care agreements, with some these US Military Facilities, they also have "Recreational- Occupational Therapy" as well as potential veterans overnight lodging agreements with them within their AOR??????

If interested see the folowing:

The following in "quotes" cited from above listed web-site: "The mission of the Coast Guard Morale, Well-Being, and Recreation (MWR) Program is to uplift the spirits of the Coast Guard Family and be an essential element of Coast Guard readiness, retention, and resiliency through customer-owned and driven MWR programs and services."

Also, since no "gym" or pool type facilities as well as other "activities" offered at Gulf Coast VA Facilities like HQ in Biloxi, MS- JACC PCOLA Florida- NEW OPC Mobile AL- perhaps coul;d also under Recreational Therapy-Occupational Therapy "partner the YMCA's vic. some their clinic locations???? In keeping with the active US Armed Services possibly taking care of their own disabled vets and their families, another resource might be Dependent Youth Activities, if interested see below:

However, did a web search for "US Armed Servics Assist their own disabled vets" and sadly the below is what came up with, if interested:

If the US VA Rec Therapy could partner with things like US Active Service MWR, Dependent Youth Activities/Services or even local YMCA's, etc... it would potentially be not only good way maintain "continuity" active duty dependent children but vets in need children playing different sports like Lacrosse, Ice Hockey, Figure Skating, Gymnastics, Swimming, Wrestling etc.... not offered other parts country or developing them in those parts....????? If interested see the below:

The following in "quotes" cited from above listed web-link: "One of the first changes to roll out is a new ice skating rink in the shopping center courtyard between Half Shell Oyster House and California Dreaming. This skating rink takes advantage of a synthetic material that will allow them to offer the skating rink year-round without ice melting."

Hope this assists one vet, their family-dependents or caregivers...etc......

IAW vets, if want to see "Recreational And Occupational Therapy" done correctly suggest applying for SHARE Program in Atlanta GA- see below eb-links if interested:

Numerous vets' been, especially Gulf Coast VA/VISN-16 PTSD Programs, as well as others in nation, to include WRIISC ( see perhaps War Related Illness and Injury Study Center Home ) did not at time have either Occupational Therapy nor Recreational Therapy integrated into their programs, as most likely should be case like SHARE in Atlanta Georgia.....????

At SHARE, proud US Vets...maybe as part of "sensation/ crowd-aversion therapy" might be treated to a Proud game of Football at the All so American "Mercedes -Benz" Stadium???? See below if interested(?):

Anyway, those vets been SHARE should sound off if I am correct-incorrect......?????

I forgot to mention integration of "Speech Pathology" into TBI/PTSD Programs, so if interested please see for example only following webl-links:

Rehabilitation Services and Prosthetic Services - Patient Care Services

(The below in "quotes" cited from above listed web-site, once again, those interested...???)

"Audiology & Speech Pathology
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Service (ASPS) is dedicated to three major goals:

  1. providing high quality, comprehensive, state-of-the-art clinical services to veterans with hearing, tinnitus, balance, speech, language, voice, and swallowing disorders;
  2. supporting the training of developing audiologists and speech pathologists; and
  3. conducting research to improve technologies, methodologies, treatment efficacy, and associated elements of patient care.
Audiology Services include:

  1. evaluation and treatment of hearing loss
  2. evaluation and management of tinnitus
  3. assessment of balance problems
  4. evaluation/issue of hearing aids and assistive/alerting devices to eligible veterans
  5. cochlear implant and/or bone-anchored hearing management in some locations
  6. aural rehabilitation
  7. Speech-Language pathology services include:
    • evaluation and treatment of speech
    • language
    • voice and swallowing disorders
    • diagnostic assessment such as modified barium swallow
    • provision of prosthetic communication devices
    • rehabilitation."
Also, thought would follow-up on some things that perhaps US VA vic. Atlanta GA,as well as Georgia in general, if not already, could form partnerships with relation to "Rec Therapy-occupational Therapy-Speech Pathology-Billeting," etc...... so if interested please see below web links...

Additionally, those possibly considering a re-location out of Georgia-Gulf Coast VA/VISN-16 might want to consider the following:

I'm 100% P&T VA, and this factor is playing in my decision of which state to relocate to as well.
I thought about Florida for awhile, but then did a cost-of-living comparison between Florida and Texas.

Texas does not state tax your military retirement.
Texas offers 100% NO property tax on all 100% VA rated Vets on their primary Texas residence. Florida offers the same thing, BUT ONLY 100%'ers who use a wheelchair as their full-time use get the 100% property tax relief.
Texas also has a State VA website that speaks to using your Veteran status for buying land there, too. Check it out!.
Texas offers many air bases, etc for Space A travel options to many places around the world.
Texas has the main HQs for USAA.
Texas has well known public universities for every single degree you can think of.
Independent Business start-up costs are lower in Texas.
Veteran hospitals and clinics are plentiful in Texas.
Veteran groups/services are strong in Texas.
Housing costs, fuel costs, etc., are lower in Texas by 13% average than in Oregon (where I live right now).

I am targeting the Austin/San Antonio area of Texas for relocation from Oregon. Been to that area 3x in my life, and think I will adapt OK there. It's far enough inland, but stll close enough to the beach (3 hours or so) - less direct fall-out from hurricanes.

There's more to my decision than just these features, but this is my broad picture of personal choice.

V/r,
nwlivewre
There’s space A travel in Florida too. Just came back from a hop.

Space A is available at many locations.

See Space Available Travel <—-link

Ron

Thought look into above some more, those interested might want see on Space-A the following:

Additionally some more on US Coast Guard Station, Mobile AL:

Coast Guard Aviation Training Center - Wikipedia (the below quoted/cited from listed article in "quotes"...)

"U.S. Coast Guard aviation training pipeline[edit]
Normally, it takes about two full years to complete all the requirements to become a USCG aviator. For a Coast Guardsman to be considered for a position, they must first be commissioned, either through Coast Guard Officer Candidate School, the United States Coast Guard Academy, or a college ROTC program. If the applicant is accepted, they are assigned to Pensacola Naval Air Station, Florida, where the Coast Guard Aviation Liaison Officer coordinates their training. This includes academics, physical fitness, medical exams and physicals, and housing.
Coast Guard aviation candidates follow an almost identical training pipeline as their United States Naval Aviator brethren from the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps. Introductory and pre-flight training is taught at Pensacola Naval Air Station, followed by primary training at Naval Air Station Whiting Field in Florida. The training is done in the T-6 Texan II. Aviators assigned to serve on rotary wing aircraft will stay at Whiting Field for advanced rotary wing training on the TH-57 Sea Ranger, while those assigned to serve on fixed wing aircraft will go to Corpus Christi Naval Air Station in Texas to train on the T-44A Pegasus; however, those assigned to serve on the HC-130 Hercules will report to Little Rock Air Force Base and/or Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater for training. All HH-65, MH-60, and HC-144 training is conducted at Mobile Coast Guard ATC, as well as flight simulator training for the HC-130, C-37A Gulfstream & other aircraft.[6]
Once all training is complete, the candidates earn their flight wings as full-fledged Coast Guard aviators.
USCG National Strike Force, Gulf Strike Team[edit]
The USCG National Strike Force's Gulf Strike Team is also located at the Aviation Training Center. This specially trained unit was created in 1973 as a result of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act of 1972, and is tasked with responding to natural and man-made pollution and hazard incidents such as oil discharge, hazardous materials released, weapons of mass destruction, and vessel salvage operations. The NSF was part of the Deployable Operations Group until October, 2013.
The Gulf Strike team can deploy anywhere across the globe, but their primary area of responsibility includes the Coast Guard's 7th District except Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands, the southern portion of the 8th District, parts of the 5th District, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. The GST also covers the Environmental Protection Agency’s 4th & 6th Districts.[7][8][9]

Some of the more high-profile missions the GST has been involved in include responses to Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Rita and Hurricane Ivan; search and recovery efforts in the wake of the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster; the 2010 Haiti earthquake; the 2011 Mississippi River floods; and the explosion and resulting oil spill that occurred with the Deepwater Horizon disaster."
