Hello Everyone,

I am currently going through the MEB/SRU PCS process here in Korea. I know there is not a lot of information on this process as it heavily varies from person to person but I figured I would post my experience and try to answer questions as best as I can. For reference I am posting a couple other details as well in hopes to help someone else.

**Details**
-I was not on projections and I immediately email my branch manager after receiving my MEB referral and requested to not be put on projections(definitely recommend this, and if you have projections get them gone as I have heard it will complicate things later)
- I am command sponsored with my wife and 2 kids (ages 5 and 8)
- I was on temp profile jumping from clinic to clinic to diagnose my issues for 360 days prior to being put on P3 permanent.
- All commanding officer (CO) refers to my company commander. (No one aside of 1SG and Company Commander were needed for the process)

**Timeline**

  • 14 Jan 2025 - Initial “Draft” Packet Submitted for Review
  • 14 Jan 2025 - P3 Submitted
  • 24 Jan 2025 - Spoke to PCM and he was confused why P3 was not signed, also informed me we are awaiting my CO signature on a memo for final submission of my packet
  • 30 Jan 2025 - PCM Notified me he received memo from CO and updated me that he was informed P3 has to be submitted at the same time as packet submission
  • 31 Jan 2025 - PCM submitted MEB packet for final submission and initiated P3
  • 12 Feb 2025 - Case Manager emailed forms and requests to me, returned all completed and requested documents (made my elections for SRUs. 1st: Fort Belvoir, VA; 2nd: Fort Liberty(Bragg),NC; 3rd: Fort Campbell, KY)
  • 13 Feb 2025 - Case Manager sent additional documents to company commander
  • 18 Feb 2025 - CO sent documents to me to input MEB comments; returned documents to CO
  • 24 Feb 2025 - CO sent documents back to Case Manager, Case Manager sent packet to AirEvac Chief of PAD for approval
  • 25 Feb 2025 - AirEvac reached out to me requesting documents and forms filled; returned all requested documents
  • 27 Feb 2025 - AirEvac Contacted me with report and location. Received my 1st Choice of Fort Belvoir, VA to report on 22Apr2025. Spoke with her again the same day and she said no guarantees but I should be receiving my orders within a week or so.

I will try to keep this updated as I progress through the process. This has went fairly quick in my opinion, but there is still a lot of stuff to do once state side even. Let me know if y'all have questions and I will try to hop in here and answer them to the best of my ability. As stated before though, this process in Korea can heavily vary from person to person.

Thank you for posting this. I am currently going through a MEB/SRU process in Korea and it has been very difficult finding any information at all. I appreciate the post and I hope you keep updating your situation, because it definitely helps a lot.

I’m still relatively new to this process, but I'm not too far behind. My PCM put together a draft packet about a week and a half ago.

Do you know which parts of the process are handled in Korea versus stateside? Any insights on SRU proccesses and timelines would be greatly appreciated.

Let me know if I can help you in any way.

No problem at all. I had the same struggle. I have seen a couple people post here and there but most information(if you can find it) about the process from Korea is 2+ years old. Keep an eye on replies to my original post, I'm going to update that timeline as it goes. Got some updates yesterday and today so I will have another post following this.

As for which parts are handled in Korea, everything up until SRU cuts your orders will be handled by personnel in Korea. Once SRU cuts orders, you will out-process, PCS, and begin everything else at SRU. I have no idea what all that entails but I will know soon.

  • 04 Mar 2025 - AirEvac Contacted me and said SRU approved an earlier report date of 08Apr2025(I told her earlier the better so she requested it and it surprisingly got approved, she said it does not always work like that)
  • 05 Mar 2025 - Received 3 separate emails as follows:
    • Email 1: Notified my 1SG and CO of my location, report date, and all the "fine print" details of my PCS(I advise trying to keep command team in the loop as much as possible, given they are supportive and willing to help progress the process)
    • Email 2: Requesting MPD to update DEROS to the day before my report date to SRU; as well as requesting orders from SRU S1(everyone was included and/or CCd in this email)
    • Email 3: MPD response that DEROS was updated

Thanks for the update.

I'm not looking to fight the medboard but I'm sitting down with someone after the upcoming exercise to talk about his experiences with a MEB CONUS. He ended up going through an entire MEB but fought it and stayed in the Army, and is willing to share his packet. I'll relay whatever information I think may be relevant to us.

As this is technically a pre-meb (since you cannot complete a MEB in Camp Humphreys), have you been addressing all your issues here in korea or are you waiting for the referrals to do that when CONUS? No need to answer anything that is too much information.

Damn, that’s a good resource to have for information. I got a senior enlisted that has seen the process a fair amount that has helped me, but the biggest help I had was my case manager, she answered A LOT of questions I had as far as the process goes. You should hear from. Yours once your packet goes to final submission. SRU is still a mystery till I get there though, lol.

Yeah, it is technically Pre-MEB while doing the SRU relocation, with that said, I have completed basically everything they can do with me here in Korea. I have a bunch of stuff messed up in my back which is also causing nerve issues with my hands and feet. I have been to Physical Therapy(at my last duty station; JBLM) Occupational Therapy(BDAACH), Pain Management(BDAACH), Neurology(BDAACH and off-post Korea), Neurosurgeon(off-post Korea, no surgery though), and back to pain management for MEB referral(BDAACH) all here in Korea. I have a feeling I am just going to go to Veteran Track at SRU and start all my ratings and stuff but I’m not 100 percent certain on it as it seems like processes vary a little between different SRUs.
