I am going to apologize up front if i am not doing this right. I've tired to read rules and execute accordingly but here I am.

I am a CHP 61 retiree I believe

1. Monthly DFAS statement: 4470.00
2. DOD: 70%
3. Reserve Ret: 8yrs 1mo (19yr, 5mo, 18days TOS if that matters)
4. VA%: 100%. Married with 3 savages
5. CRSC approval @ 70%
6. No BRC

I have done an estimate on here before with #4 being 90% and a CRSC payment of 0. I just took the first step to go for 100% VA considering ive had some serious issues come up and have been terrified of dealing with the VA again. I will be unemployed within a month pending a surgery that is done through the VA which is a new condition or a radical change to an existing condition (gigantic non-cancerous tumor in the back and shoulder).

Your help is appreciated. IF CRSC is a 0 payment at 100% form my situation, i might reconsider dealing with the VA. Thanks

Hello @kyle50cal ,

Hello,

To provide an estimate, we need accurate info for all of the following:

1. Average high three base pay OR (and better), the gross retired pay on your most recent DFAS RAS. State which is furnished.

2. DoD disability percentage

3. VA info:
— percentage
— amount
—dependents by category and number

4. Active duty equivalent (shown on retirement orders as DISABILITY RETIREMENT : xx years xx months )

5. Blended retirement info (yes or no)

6. Approved CRSC percentage.

Hello @kyle50cal ,

I noticed you visited the board last night, but did not add to your previous info.

You had previously provided much of what was needed, but not all and some needed clarification.

I gave you the list so your reply might include everything, including the amount of your VA comp and active duty equivalent (from orders).

Earlier you said, “
1. Monthly DFAS statement: 4470.00
2. DOD: 70%
3. Reserve Ret: 8yrs 1mo (19yr, 5mo, 18days TOS if that matters)
4. VA%: 100%. Married with 3 savages
5. CRSC approval @ 70%
6. No BRC

________

Comment: If your VA went from 90% to 100%, that would increase the VA offset, and decease the amount of residual retired pay (if any).

Ron

Edited to add:
Chapter 61 Disability Retirees:
Each CH 61 case involves these ceilings and other factors:

—Must be entitled to retired pay
—Agrees to waive retired pay in the amount of VA compensation received.
—CRSC cannot exceed the amount of the waived retired pay.
—CRSC cannot exceed the amount of the approved CRSC percentage (amt in VA Comp tables).
—CRSC cannot exceed the dollar amount of the longevity portion of retired pay.
—CRSC when combined with residual retired pay cannot exceed the longevity amount.

As one can see, more than one of the ceilings shown above could apply to the retiree. In those cases, the lesser amount is the CRSC amount.

Question about CRSC back pay: from my understanding backpay is calculated from the date your were released from AD or when your separated from service which ever is later. In my case, I am a reservist who got medically retired CH 61 July 2024.

Does that mean no backpay prior to July 2024 (my last AD tour was 2013) since I was in the reserves? Will the backpay be only from the time I was placed on PDRL and onward while waiting for CRSC application approval?

1. Dfas ras: 4474
2. Dod: 70%
3. VA 100 % $4305
4. 8yr 1mo
5. No brs
6. Crsc 70% (i think the letter said 100% but the condition is rated at 70 from va).

One must be in a retired status to receive CRSC.

Your CRSC approval document will show the effective date.

Hello @kyle50cal ,

You did not provide the ages of your children; however, that info might be unnecessary in this case’.

Using info suppled by you:

1. Dfas ras: 4474
2. Dod: 70%
3. VA 100 % $4305
4. 8yr 1mo
5. No brs
6. Crsc 70% (i think the letter said 100% but the condition is rated at 70 from va).

ESTIMATE:

a. 4474 gross retired pay on DFAS RAS divided by 70% = 6391.43 average high three base pay
b. 8.08 Ad equivalent x 2.5% = 20.2 % longevity multiplier
c. 6391.43 x 20.2 %= 1291.06 hypothetical longevity portion of retired pay.
d. 4474.00 minus 4305 VA amount = 169 residual retired pay
e. Using your info you should receive
—VA = all of it
—DFAS = 169 residual retired pay PLUS 1291.96 minus 169 = 1122.06 CRSC

Going to ask this here not knowing if this is the correct spot.

Its taken me a long time but I finally was rated from the VA @100% P&T. I medically retired at 19.5 years Dec 2019. I did the CRSC packet and got an approval for 70% on file dated 12 March 2020. Around that time DFAS said my payment was $0 also verified on this forum due to all my pay and retirement numbers at that time (I did not look for that post as its 5 years old). The most recent estimate is on this thread and was based on the possibility of 100% rating from the VA. the only change is COLA and my overall VA rating increase.

1. Will the CRSC payment automatically compute and pay based off of an approval from 5 years ago or is there an action I need to take? my uneducated assumption is that its still approved and good, I just had too much residual retired pay which led to a CRSC payment of $0. I do not know how DFAS, Army HRC, and the VA systems work at this level. My VA pay increased but not the CRSC approved condition.

2. I did get a couple of PACT act conditions added, for lack of proper terms its sinus and lung related on condition at 30% and another at 10%. It has crossed my mind to work towards getting those conditions added to CRSC however I think that it could be a wasted effort with no gain to myself and add work to another entity. I do not know how the math would shake out on that.

I have a good VSO and good VSO's are busy so I have not had a chance to speak with them on that yet, I also have no knowledge that VSO's provide guidance on CRSC.

Your help and wisdom are very much appreciated.
