EAS is one day after my first LIMDU

Hello,
Looking for information.
I am in the Marine Corps I have been in for 8 1/2 years. I was place on Limited Duty in April for multilevel degenerative disc disease. For about two years I just pushed through the lower back pain figured everyone in the infantry has lower back pain but it got to the point on my last deployment I couldn't take it anymore as it got worse. It took me 16 months to finally get an MRI. They found multiple bulging discs in my back and my S1 is the worst of them all. I have been going to physical therapy and chiro since February eventually being put on limited duty in April. I started Pin management about a month and a half ago.
My issue is My limited duty (first one) ends October 11th 2019. My EAS is October 12th 2019. I am in zone for staff this year and have done everything on my end to be able to be selected. I would like to stay in but at this point I haven't seen any improvement in my back. The specialist that put me on limited duty is from the sports med where I do my physical therapy. He is telling me they are not going to put me on a med board because me EAS is so soon and that the VA will handle my issues when I get out. Maybe I am dumb but I was under the impression that the military would not let me out unless I was fixed or deemed unfixable.
So my questions are can I request an extension for a second term of limited duty to see if they can fix it on the second limited duty or request to go to a med board that may extend past my EAS?
My MO said he can not do anything for me because he is not the one who put me on limited duty and I have to talk to the Sports med doctor who put m on limited duty. The issues I am running into are that I cant just walk into his office and I only see him once every 30 days. I started pain management and those appointments are once every 30 days. I only have 5 months left before my EAS and I just want to know what I can do and what my options are. I have been told by some to get off limited duty early say I feel better even if I don't, reenlist and then go back on limited duty. THat just seems wrong to me I just don't understand why I cant just get a med board.
any information would be greatly appreciated

I recommend reading MCO 1900.16 w ch 2. Particularly paragraph 8111.

When your doctor put you on limited duty, your limited duty coordinator should have been notified and your stuff should have been put into LIMDU SMART. You are authorized to extend to seek medical treatment. They can not just discharge you and act like nothing is going on.

"Commanding officers of Regular component Marines who do not have a previously approved or mandatory separation or retirement date are authorized to approve the first extension on current contract for short term health assessment or medical treatment, a period of TLD, or upon referral into the DES."

Statement above applies to MEDBOARD and 2nd LimDu. Just a heads up Commanding officer can approve medical extension for 12 months, the second extension will need to go through MMSR4. If the doctor feels that your back can not be fixed to continue service, I would talk to the doctor and see if MEDBOARD is a possibility.

Let me know if you have any questions.
