FL4 IRILO Only Lists Mental Health – What About Myasthenia Gravis?

Hey everyone,

Today, I received my FL4 for an IRILO, and the only diagnostic code listed is for my mental health condition. However, my PCM also wrote a NARSUM for Myasthenia Gravis (MG). The issue is that in the NARSUM, my PCM stated that my MG should improve enough for me to perform my AFSC and that medication controls it. Unfortunately, I wish that were true—I’ve explained that the medication only works sometimes, and my MG is generalized, not just mild.

My concern is:

• Since only one condition (mental health) is listed in the IRILO, does that mean the PEB won’t consider MG for a DoD rating?

• I spoke with my PEBLO and am currently in the stage of submitting my SHA to the VA.

• What options do I have to ensure MG is also rated?

• As far as I’m aware, MG should be considered unfitting due to its impact on my ability to serve.

Any guidance or advice would be greatly appreciated!

You're correct that, as of right now, the PEB only intends on considering mental health. However, you're going to get another bite at the apple. During your VA appointment for MG, you need to explain to the examiner how this condition is impacting your ability to do your job. Once your exam results make their way back to the MEB, hopefully the MEB will include MG as an unfitting condition in the updated NARSUM. If they don't, this is where you can further argue your case via IMR/rebuttal. The hopeful end result for you is the MEB will refer the MG along with the mental health condition to the PEB. I recommend you discuss this with your disability counsel time now.
