Congratulations. I’m signing my NARSUM Monday so I’m a little behind you. A couple questions though, once I get my DA199, after that I get orders to clear? Then take permissive TDY, and terminal leave right? Also when do you get your DD214 and how do you get it? I’m wondering because my family is moving back home in 6 weeks and I’m supposed to meet them back home once I’m finished clearing so I’m hoping to expedite/ make it as fast of a process as I can. Thank youUpdate:
Clearing installation at this point.
1. once I get my DA199, after that I get orders to clear? Thanks
Thank you. This is super helpful. I’m gonna get everything squared away so when the time comes I’m good to go1. once I get my DA199, after that I get orders to clear?
A: It depends. As a medical retirement, I had to complete a packet after hitting Transproc list in order to get orders and a 214 worksheet. Packet consisted of the attached pic. Recommend to start getting that together if it applies to you. Approved leave is indeed a showstopper if you don’t have it.
2. Then take permissive TDY, and terminal leave right?
A: It depends. If its approved yes.
3. Also when do you get your DD214 and how do you get it?
A: When you get orders you should get the worksheet. I got mine after providing the checklist. They came together. The final DD214 should be sent via mail if I recall the first time i got out. But any last changes will be done at the final out appointment.

A: 6 weeks is plenty time to clear unit and post IF there are no issues. For instance, clearing MPs, one guy in front of me had something pop up when the MPs were reviewing his profile. Couldnt clear him. Needed his CDR to complete some form and a memo. Where is said CDR? FWD. Crap like that will hold you up. I cleared 80% installation today to include CIF. The rest will be done Monday. This is only because I ensured my stuff is squared away to include accounting for gear. It can indeed go fast but it really depends on you. And I can assure you, no one else cares or will care about you going on leave on time.
My S1 also never submitted my packet via IPPSA for orders mid December when I gave it to them the day after signing my 199. I expected first week of January or right before to have orders. But nope, S1 never sent the packet nor acted like it was urgent. Therefore I skipped all of them and gave it straight to IMCOM personnel. Yesterday the S1 even had the audacity to say they were checking on it. Little do they know, I am way past that point now. Goes back to me saying, no one else cares or will care about you going on leave on time.
From what I've been told, once you sign your DA199 and send back to your PEBLO, they will submit it to the PEB who will generate your NLT Out Date (90 Days). Your packet will then be sent to your Installation Personnel Transition Office to cut your orders where you can begin outprocessing and what not. Per the Army IDES timeline, it's expected to take 26 days for one to get their orders, complete TAP, and clear installation with the rest of the time allocated for TAA/ISSA (formerly PTDY) and terminal absence (formerly leave). From my understanding, if you don't have the leave saved up you could try to work an earlier Out Date. If I were you, I'd talk to your PEBLO now and make sure they know you're trying to get out ASAP.Congratulations. I’m signing my NARSUM Monday so I’m a little behind you. Hmm...I've never known S1 to process medical separation/retirement orders, that may have been the issue. I believe that's the role of the Installation Transition office along with the PEBLO.My S1 also never submitted my packet via IPPSA for orders mid December when I gave it to them the day after signing my 199. Nazzario? Yes it depends. I asked him and he referred me elsewhere. But could also be due to an MEB retirement vs separation. So YMMV.Thanks so much. I actually already started TAP and have a guy at SFAC who can have out orders cut in 24 hours hopefully that’ll cut some of the time down too
Getting your orders cut ASAP will definitely cut the time because Installation won't let you outprocess at all until you have them. Do you have lots of leave/absence saved up to use for your terminal absence? Thanks so much. I have about 25 days of leave nothing crazyGetting your orders cut ASAP will definitely cut the time because Installation won't let you outprocess at all until you have them. Do you have lots of leave/absence saved up to use for your terminal absence?
Final out appointment ideally would occur in the order you specified. But, again, it depends. For instance, I have two scheduled and both while on terminal but I will also be local. I scheduled a second as a back up seeing how things started off going wrong. Lo and behold my orders were wrong. My time in was wrong. My entry date was wrong. My rank was wrong. DOD % wrong. A whole nest of stuff. Now I need it all corrected and reissued. So again it all depends and I start terminal in 96hrs.From what I've been told, once you sign your DA199 and send back to your PEBLO, they will submit it to the PEB who will generate your NLT Out Date (90 Days). You're authorized 10 days each for TAA & ISAA, but it is not an entitlement so there is a small chance your commander may deny it; I've personally never seen someone denied it though in this situation unless it pushes you over your NLT Out Date. You will have to submit an absence request through IPPS-A; you'll likely want to combine your TAA/ISAA with your remaining leave days so you can have your final out and get your DD214 and then go on your TAA/ISAA/Terminal Absence. You won't be allowed to exceed your NLT Out Date though unless it's approved by an O6 CDR though; even then you generally have to have abnormal circumstances.
The last two things you should do in the Army is sign your DD214 and turn in your CAC during your Final Out which will be the day prior to when your TAA/ISAA/Terminal Absence starts.
No the packet I provided was everything that pertained to me in that checklist. You cannot get orders until you provide everything in that checklist. Then, you submit it via IPPSA to IMCOM. This is what S1 did not do and I hand walked it over. See below.Hmm...I've never known S1 to process medical separation/retirement orders, that may have been the issue. So with the 20 days of TAA/ISAA you'll have 45 days total absence authorized leaving you 55 days before you can do your Final Out, leave, and join your family. With you wanting to be gone in 6 weeks, you should add the 45 days to the date you want to be gone and request that as your separation date. If I'm seeing it right, that date would be 9 APR 2025. So your timeline would look like this:I have about 25 days of leave nothing crazy
Yikes. I'm glad you're local or that would suck to have to stick around for the Army to unfuck themselves.Final out appointment ideally would occur in the order you specified. But, again, it depends. Interesting that the Fort Bliss Transition Office is requiring this now, but it does make sense for them to use IPPS-A, just sucks it has to be routed through the S1 pool as they really don't need to be a middle man in that process and likely causes unnecessary delays. I'll be interested to see if the Fort Liberty Transition Office is doing it the same way now; I know for the longest time they rejected almost everything to do with IPPS-A.No the packet I provided was everything that pertained to me in that checklist. You cannot get orders until you provide everything in that checklist. Then, you submit it via IPPSA to IMCOM. This is what S1 did not do and I hand walked it over. See below.
"Now that you have received your “NO LATER THAN DATE” from the U.S. Army Physical Disability Agency (USAPDA), before contacting Transition Branch, and the MED SEP RET document. Fill out the Medical Counseling Form, DA -31 (to include PTDY) with your Chain of Command and complete the Transition Packet IAW the Medical retirement and separation checklist.
All Soldiers must have a valid MILITARY email or utilize DoD Safe, to receive documents that contain PII from the SFAC, Retirement Services, and Transition Branch. Please ensure that your MILITARY email address is operational.
Once completed, turn the entire packet to your Unit S1. The Unit S1 will input your documents into IPPSA for processing. Please take this into consideration as it could delay the start of your Transition process. Please keep your PEBLO informed of your progress throughout the Transition process"
