New member and first time caller. AD Navy with 18 years. Diagnosed by PCM with daily chronic migraines in 2019. Referred to civilian neurologist since august 2020, was on 2 RXs that requires prior authorizations but now it’s just one since tricare has approved Botox. I have a migraine everyday since the end of August, it has effected work and my personal life. I had an appointment today with my PCM and she put me Limdu and stated that I will have a med board in 90 days. I said because it was migraines it needs to be 90 days; where can I find this information? I thought I could be Limdu for a year, I’m scared now that I’m going to get kicked out before I can retire. Thanks in advance for the help!!

It's advantageous for you to hit 20 years but you may not make it. My first goal would be to see if you can somehow reach 20 years. How close are you to 19 years. If you can submit your retirement packet that may save you. Not worth going through MEB if they can work with you for the last year. Now the good news. If you do get MEB you will be medically retired if rated 30% or higher for the unfitting conditions. The highest rating for migraines is 50%. Look up the criteria for VA rating migraines so that you know what symptoms get what percentage. Keep meticulous records with a migraine diary See if there is any other health issues that keep you from doing your job. Even if not referred you can start building your case to have them added to increase your DOD % which will increase your medical retirement.

If medically retired you get the higher of the 2 between longevity and DOD%. So if you have 18 years and are rated 30% you will get 45% since 18 years x 2.5% =45%. So getting what you have earned on the retirement isn't a big deal. The main loss to you is CRDP. If you hit 20 years and retire you can get VA disability AND your retirement as long as your VA rating is 50% or higher. If you medically retire before 20 years your VA disability will offset your medical retirement amount. Still always accept VA compensation since its tax free but that amount will reduce the amount you earned for your pension.
