Hello,
Does anyone know if the VA taking 5 months and counting to put together ratings is the norm?

Depends on from what point you are talking about. I did C&P in March 2012 and ratings were complete on 6 Nov 2012. See my timeline below. Even though my ratingings were complete they still as of today have not been transmitted back to the PEB regardless of what E-benefits shows.
There is nothing that could ever be called normal in regards to VA timelines. As you read through the posts on here you will find. People who get stuff done fast and others that wait for ever. Complexity (type and number of claims you have also have an effect I am told. Hang in there. They do eventualy get things done.

Hello,

What are you basing the 5 months on? Are you talking 5 months from when you had your C&P to when the VA sends your rating back to the PEB?, or are you saying 5 months from when the PEB sent your packet to the VA for ratings?

If its the first scenario, then yeah that's about right. There are a lot of steps in there that take place. If you are saying the second scenario, then I would say no. For most, the time frame between the PEB sending the VA the packet and getting ratings back is 1-2 months.

Thanks Ranger, the VA received my package for ratings on 14 Aug.

I was told its electronic now and decreases the time it takes to get the 199, well guess they calculated wrong. It seems longer now as my belief is, even if its in the system, someone has to claim the ticket and work on the case.

T-roy, here is my AF timeline: http://www.pebforum.com/site/threads/pretty-good-pace-so-far.15512/page-4

By the looks of your avatar, you might be a rated O like myself, so maybe your timeline will start to flow similar. I won't hold it against you that you are the #2 CAS platform behind Spectre/Spooky. Just kidding. My issues were complex, however, none related to PTSD or mental conditions (which usually take longer in this process). I figured that I have enough on my plate right now just trying to survive the lung damage...I plan to sit and talk with somebody about the mental stuff later when I am a bit more stabilized.

If I miss read, sorry buddy it's part of my condition and hard for me to read and understand. I'm guessing sense you used "like me" you meant 100%. Just like a lot of us, i'm going insane with this crap!

A-10 takes the number two position to the Spectre? Everyone should quickly walk away from this discussion. Two AF pilots comparing their "wing span." I prayed for Navy and Marine instructors through flight school :cool:Those were the days. I must say watching an A-10 pull some amazing maneuvers around us while we had no comms, off our flight plan, in a MOA, and in the clouds was an amazing yet scary day. Thank God he was a great pilot and saw us in the clown car (T-39).

Just a little fun poke at the only other CAS platform in the AF (B52's don't count).:) I've done a lot of work with A-10's on the perch, until they bingo and/or winchester and have to go home. We stay and play for another 6-7 hours and get up close and personal with the bad guys....our guys on the ground love that.;) 30mm and bombs are cool until you winchester, that's where 96 rounds of 105mm and 256 rounds of 40mm come in handy for Spectre, plus a loiter time exceeding 8 hours and dual target attack capability. Like we say, "you can run, you'll only die tired".

In all seriousness, the more firepower that we can provide the guys kickin in doors on the ground, the better. I sure enjoyed giving everything I had to help save lives. I had some pretty "successful" nights working hand in hand with A-10's eradicating Taliban.

A-10: 57.6'
AC130: 132.7'
:p

As a Blackhawk guy I had my ass saved by both the A-10 and AC 130 during air assaults. Both are awesome in their own way. My favorite is doing a NVG air assault and having the 130 shine their IR spotlight down on the bad guys. You see the squirters clear as day with the IR light and they have no clue you can see them. Good times.
