Provider won't help...where do I go next?

I have been going in and complaining about frequent migraines and tension headaches for the better part of 3 yrs. They recently sent me to get a MRI which came back normal. They then sent me to a neurologist off post who put me on a daily medication to try and control the migraines. It worked for about a month or two then they started coming back. They are now back at the level they were before the daily meds and it feels like they are now getting worse than ever. My provider had wanted to medboard me for them before but has now changed his mind because he claims it'll just get kicked back. I have spoken to my commander even but it feels like he is not interested in helping. I have scoured AR 40-501 for answers and from what I can find my migraines and the fact that the medication is not helping is cause enough to refer me to MEB. If my providers refuse to even refer me though where do I go next to get the help I need??

You might want to talk to the patient advocate. Explain the duration of treatment and that the current treatment is not working (as above). You could ask for the approval of additional visit to the specialist. Hopeful another treatment plan will help your headaches.

Best wishes
Mike

They did refer me for a follow up to the neurologist as well as pain management but my provider pretty much has said that he doesn't believe it will help. I am set to PCS to Korea in January but I cannot handle the constant pain anymore so I just want out. So I will try the patient advocate- thank you!

I am currently going thru the MEB for spine issues however one of my claims is also debilitating near daily migraines since 2013. I have tried all the MEDS and my Neurologist then said my last option is Botox treatment which coincided during my MEB process. The treatment has been working for me and I feel amazing. I get Botox treatments every 90 days. I still get migraines just before my next injections are due but not nearly as frequent and intense as they prior to Botox treatment. I feel your pain and if you haven’t tried Botox, ask your neurologist about it. BTW, I thought I would also be found unfit for the migraines...nope, in fact I got a 0% rating..

Im not very good at this but maybe try your base ombudsman and explain your situation and how you think you should get meb. I hope you get yours going and hope best for you.

I get them nearly everyday as well and it blows my mind that you got 0% for that

Was the patient advocate any help to you? Have you made any progress with your migraines?

Tough to get an unfit MEB for migraines I tried to add it to my MEB but was denied originally rated 0% which was a joke but later got it up to 30% you max at 50%.

They weren't any help...just basically said that they would send a report to have my issue looked into. I haven't heard anything back and don't expect to. I do have a new provider now though who will hopefully help me out.

I'm going to try my new provider and see if he can help me. My previous provider had also wanted to medboard me for my issues with my feet so we'll see how this all goes- my apt is Dec 5th, wish me luck!
