Retirement Orders

Hello.

I signed my acceptance of TDRL 30% on 27 August and haven't received my orders yet. My requested DOS is 5 Nov.

Does anyone know about how long these orders take? As of today I still don't have an approved separation date in my MilPDS record.

You're not alone. I signed mine on the same date and haven't received them either. You won't get the DOS you requested though. The DOS will be on the last week of the month, not including the last day of the month making it 25-28 Oct or 29 Nov.

I signed mine (20% DWSP) on 2 September and still don't have anything either.
How does the DOS work, how do they pick the date? I didn't request any specific date so what date do you think they will most likely give me?

Depends on how much terminal leave you're taking or selling, whether or not you're taking 20 days PTDY for house hunting, and how much out-processing time you need. My best guess would be last week of October earliest, or 29 Nov, latest.

I will have 37 days terminal, so do you think that means I'll most likely get the November DOS? Thanks for the info, I appreciate it:)
Oh, and I'm not taking any permissive, I'm stationed overseas and my husband will still be in with a DEROS of November 2011 so we're here for another year anyway.

When I was placed on TDRL my separation date was the day after I completed terminal leave. You will have to do the outprocessing routine at which time they will calculate any outstanding financial matters, help you connect with VA if you have not already done so, issue a DD214 (which is extremely valuable) and cut orders placing you on TDRL.

I got my DOS today!!! Its 23 December 2010! It's a month later than I thought it would be, but that's one more paycheck:)
PEBLO said my orders/checklist should be in vMPF w/in 72 hours!

Just checked and my orders are in vMPF too, no checklist yet but that should be in any day too:)

You have to fill out the "assignment briefing" and click the "submit" button, then give it about 12 hrs and your checklist will show up.

My PEBLO called AFPC yesterday and they told her that they are awaiting a signature and should be done in the next 2 weeks. This seems ridiculous to me but hey, I'm not personnel.

Oh! Thanks for the tip, I'd have been waiting forever, lol! I wonder why they don't tell you you're supposed to do that?
Well thanks again:)

I don't have the orders yet, but I received a call stating my retirement date would be 29 Dec.

Yeah I got mine yesterday, 23 Dec. I'm NOT happy. My PEBLO doesn't understand why they didn't give my requested date, but according to the MEB regulations, my DOS should have been pushed up to the end of November as 23 Dec is not within 90 days of approval.

It looks like the way the separation date is determine is different among services. This is the Air Force quote, "Disability retirements can be effective any day of the month. However, to bring Air Force disability separations and retirements in line with its sister services and to enable a smoother transition from military benefits to Veterans Administration benefits, most dates will be established during the last week, but not last day of the month, not to exceed 90 days from date of case completion."

According to the regulation AFI 36-3212,

"5.19.3. HQ AFPC/DPPD will establish disability separation and retirement dates as follows:
5.19.3.1. Date of separation or retirement will be established not to exceed 90 days from date of Secretary of the Air Force (SAF) Memorandum approving the separation or retirement. For the purposes of Benefits Delivery at Discharge, the date will be established as a day during the last week of the month which does not extend the DOS beyond 90 days from SAF Memo. For example: If 90 days would place the DOS at 15 May, the DOS will be 29 April. Any unsellable leave must be taken prior to member’s separation or retirement date.
"

Mine was approved 2 September which means I should of been put at the end of November.

Yes, I saw that too, but some recent changes have not been incorporated into the AFI yet. Here's the source from AFPC where I found the information.

In any case, why the two of you whose retirements date should have been 29 Nov (28th is a Sunday and 30th is last day of month) was changed to 23 Dec is beyond explanation--especially since they busted the 90 day rule. It was probably some policy memo that directed some changes due to the proximity of the holidays.

Congrats Col. Now change that signature and keep in touch with those of us still waiting.

Update! I talked to my PEBLO who called AFPC. Apparently they didn't even bother to look at the form I requested my DOS on so that is why they gave me 23 Dec. She called them, made them check the paperwork and within an hour they cut me new orders with my requested DOS of 5 Nov! Yay!!

Good for you! Bravo!!!
