I called the VA and DAV didn't get no information other than they last look at my case on the 6th. I need to send in a POA so they can give me more information. I did get out of them that I "should" recive som information around 30 days. I hope everything goes quickly.

This response is too funny.

Sure, the "DoVA D-RAS in Seattle, WA shall continue to expeditiously process all DoD IDES disability claims until the backlog has completely terminated!"

Hmm, that sounds like verbiage the IRIS inquiry and the 1-800# representatives would give upon any contact with them! ;)

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

Best Wishes!

Indeed, laughter is great for the soul! ;)

Good deal, especially in our continuing "DoD IDES waiting" ordeal! :(

96 total days for the MEB
26 day after Seattle VA looked over my case

Any realistic guesses on my time left in this process. I am praying for October or early November. Much sought after information on how and why this time line can or cannot be met.

You'll be lucky if its done by December, Seattle has a pretty bad IDES backlog, 120 days is the average right now but could be done quicker but can take longer

December is what I was told to expect from my Dr who started my MED Board. I still hope my case is simple and goes right through. I was under the impression the Seattle VA was at a all time low for cases?

I retired April 18th but still have yet to receive my final ratings, so almost 5 month wait as of now!!

And as far as my first retirement check yes i got it about 30 days after retirement, and also your first retirement check can be sent to you anyday of the month after they establish your retirement account but every payment after will come on the first of every month
Thank you so much for the feedback. 5 months - I will cross my fingers.

Hello all, long time no talk.

Ive got a couple questions. Ive completed my terminal leave and am now officially medically retired as of Aug 22nd. My final ratings still are not complete. My Ebenefits still says, "gathering of evidence". My questions are:

What are the averages you guys are seeing for finalized ratings to be complete after separation date? And I believe I know the answer to this question, but I just want someone to confirm it. But while im waiting for my VA pay to come in, I will start receiving my disability percentage from the DOD correct?

I retired Aug 22nd. So I think October 1st I should see my first retirement check.

Thanks for the help.

Me personal experience:
I retired april 18th and just had my ratings finalized Aug 30th out of Seattle but could be 1-5 months

It usually takes DFAS 30 days to establish your retirement account, and your first DOD check can come any day of the month after your retirement account is established, meaning it could come before or after Oct 1st but every check after will deposit first of the month

Wow... So that was like 5 months for you post retirement. Thats crazy.

Heres another question you might know the answer to, I was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea and got my APAP machine. Can I file this claim now with the VA or do I need to wait until my initial finalized ratings are complete?

You should be able to, since you just retired now it might be best to try and add it now and maybe wont delay your ratings being finalized! You should contact your local VSO and they should be able to get it added for you

Congradulations on the retierment, how long did your whole process take for you to get to terminal leave. My hurry up wait is starting to get old.

Thank you. From start to finish it took about 7 months from permanent profile approved to signing out on leave. I know the process sucks, but believe it or not it has drastically improved and gotten faster. So try and take some comfort in that. Easier said then done I know.

Any idea how long it takes to complete proposed ratings once the request follow up exams. I had my follow up exams one day shy of 8 months of my unfit memo being sent up. Since then I have been sitting at gathering of evidence. I know the doc said she was going to email the results same day to Seattle. All I can say is this has been a process that will hopefully be over soon. Its ok though because I started burning leave days to start college and just have to go back once I hit Transpoc as I talked to my Peblo and he said he could email it to me to sign. I realize how lucky I am to have a supportive and good chain of command to allow me to do this. Im just hoping everything finally comes in this month or early next month as I run out of leave days the beginning of Nov and dont want to have to put myself in a strange position if they wont give me free stay away from work days to finish out the last month of the semester. To those waiting as long as me or longer stay calm we should see our stuff soon hopefully.

ALCON,
Just wanted to pass this info on as I am finally in the final phase of the PDES, awaiting on my orders to be able to retire. I am hoping that I will be out the Army in October I hope. I think I will be able to get all the items I need to get out done by then I am being proactive in getting all the forms done prior to arriving to Ft. Rucker, AL just hoping the process is not too painful and it is a lot better than the wait to finally recieve the DoD/ VA ratings.
Some advice to the newbies on this forum;
1. Get a representative my preferance was a DAV, they are awesome it is simple to do through eBenefits and they will answer all your questions and keep you informed as to where your packet is at all times. Specially if you get one that is where your packet is at like mine was at Seattle, Washington so he had the info right there at his finger tips.
2. If your PEBLO cannot answer your questions ask your MSC she works directly in conjunction with the VA and she will probably have the answers your looking for specially when trying to find out where your packet status is. Thats is your DAV representative does'nt know.
3. Patience, patience patience................. Pulling out your hair, plotting to attack the VA is not going to do anything but stress you out. In my opinion use this time to plan ahead and get little things done for when you finally transition into civilian life i.e. job searches, resume improvement, it is very important to get this straight for your future to walk into a good job opportunity, College/ University there are pre-requasites that need to be done with some majors prior to entering school, so that done, save for your transition ensure that you have at least 2 months worth of funds to help you once your out the Army from what the guys that have gotten out here they regrett not saving a little more. Pay is not always on time, it might be a little late, but it will be there.
4. It is definately a wait and anything that you might be able to do while waiting do it specially if it has anything to do with education or anything that can be transfered from military to civilian education.
5. Dont stress over eBenefits status they will 100% of the time not be updated so do not put your hopes on these statuses try to stay away from it. But definately update all your info on it and use eBenefits other benefits that arer available.
6. Start writting down and maintaining all your passwords for all the military/ .mil sites you have access to with your CAC card. Once a civilian you will not have a CAC card available. There is a lot of things to keep your mind off the process and out of your hands so unless your over 120 days + dont worry about it. Once over 120 days my advice is to do a Congressional it is very easy and fast specially if your Congressman is a prior service member. They will bend over backwards to help you out.
7. Do as much research as possible to get the maximum amount of compensation from the VA and the Army, look into everything CRCS, etc ect ect......
Good luck with your individual packet and realize that everyones packet is individual and can take more or less time it just all depends on your packet. If I can help anyone please inbox me I will as best of my ability answer or help you in anyway.

I agree with reconscout09, while waiting for VA results do whatever you can to get ahead. While here at FT Knox I participated in an Internship program that matched me up with a Federal agency, basically volunteering your time with them in hopes it leads to a full time position after you transition out of the military. I do know some fellow soldiers that this worked out for, I was unfortunately caught in an agency that is currently in a hiring freeze until TBD. But I have a back up plan and will be attending school after transition near my home of record. However I did get some valuable experience and prospective employers always like someone who volunteers to get relative work skills. Key thing is do what you can to ensure you have a smooth transition out of the green (or blue) suit.
