Well I'm active duty Air Force and had a mechanical valve and anuryesm repaired in 2009...I am also on life-long Coumadin treatment. I met the formal board at the end of 2009 and was returned to duty...so don't let anyone tell you that it can't be done!
I have a St Jude mechanical valve and aortic aneurysm repair and was retained on active duty despite the fact that I will always have to take Coumadin. Separation is not the only choice.
Hi Jason. Thanks for the response. What I meant about waiving the appeal, is that I was told by my disability attorney that I could appeal to the SAFPC, and then withdraw that appeal at any time (like if I got a really good job offer or got tired of waiting) and accept the findings of the...
Everybody on this board is great..thanks for the help with the questions.
I have one more though. Just to recap...my package went before the informal board and the recommendation was discharge without severance due to the fact that my valve disease was EPTS. I have 7 1/2 years of service...
Yes..I had a really good commander's letter and the recommendation came from the IPEB to discharge additionally. Also..I have to take Coumadin for the rest of my life which messes with your blood, and they are citing that as one of the main reasons.
How did it go? I was told by my JAG lawyer at the PEB that the SAFPC cases are taking at least 8 months now to process...so u can always go that route if the PEB didn't work out.
If I tell the formal PEB that is my intention, will they allow me to collect the severance now knowing that they will end up paying me eventually anyways? I have six months until my eight year mark. If I appeal the IPEB decision, it will be probably be 2 months until I make it to the formal...
Well the results of my IPEB came back in today..0%, existed prior to service, no severance pay. So much for accepted medical principles and published medical material eh?
Any suggestions?
It's funny you ask that. My package was due to AFPC back in mid April (according to AFPC this was a "firm" date), but the base PEBLO left for a new job unexpectedly so they are in turmoil...so my NARSUM isn't even done yet.
