Just an update on my hubby's case: finally got word in May 2010 (we filed original review Jan 2009) that he was approved; they overturned the 10% and reinstated full retirement at 30% (YAY!!). Got a letter from DFAS Cleveland yesterday that the first payment will be Sept 1. No word on back...
My hubby called Randolph AFB yesterday for an update. His case has been "at the board" since Aug 5. Apparently the doc in Wash DC who is reviewing his case doesn't understand enough about his condition to know what to recommend yet. So they called the VA to get some other Condition and Review...
Hi, Mike. In case this was directed at me, I guess I was unclear ... the VA rating for my husband was effective on his separation date; we just received notification when they awarded it which was in May. Thanks!

Still waiting to hear on our case. But here's the summary: Found unfit based on my hubby's medical condition. He was placed on TDRL (via board at Ft Sam Houston) Feb 2002, rating 30%. VA Award May 2002, same 30%, same VASRD code, same and only condition rated. 1st TDRL Review sometime in 2003...
All,
Hubby called Randolph AFB today for an update. His case was forwarded to the board on the 5th of August, so they said we should expect a response in the next 60 days. Will let you know. Please keep us posted on your progress as well. Thanks!
Jason-
Back when we went through the ratings, the VASRD had the recommended percentages next to each condition. I can't find that anywhere now - any ideas on where to look? I'm specifically looking for this section:
Tenth (pneumogastric, vagus) cranial nerve
8210 Paralysis of
8310...
Gel - if I am reading correctly, Big Will got increased from 10% to 20% - but since severance is still the outcome, and the payment calculation of that severance is the same, he's no better off than he was.
Big Will - let us know if you hear anything further?
Thanks.
Update on our file: Called this morning; found out that hubby's records were received on 18 Jun from the VA. In this case, the VA actually has a copy of everything from the Army, so his file is now complete, and waiting on a board date. Not sure how long getting a board date actually takes...
Essie,
oh, that is great news! Maybe we'll all see some movement now! Did you get any letters, other than the first 2 we all got, to tell you that your packet had moved to the board, or was it just through a phone call. We're trying to be patient... :)
Thanks!
VASRD Linked Index (Schedule of ratings— neurological cond. and convulsive disord
Jason,
Are you able to supply the actual ratings for this section: (neurologic disorders). I checked through everything I could find, and can't see the actual rating recommendations?
Tenth (pneumogastric...
Just thought I'd check and see if anyone who's in the queue has heard anything else yet? We're docket # 79 and have had the original letter of receipt, the letter that they were "collecting all the records", and that's all. Thanks, all, for the continued posting of information. We'll update...
Since this is being administered by the USAF and not the Army, maybe we're just seeing organization that wasn't present in other branches. You may be right, but I'm trying to remain optimistic that since it is a hot issue, they are being pro-active by telling people where they are in the...
