Seeking anyone's timeline for Idiopathic Hypersomnia / Narcolepsy Type II. I am specifically wondering if positive results on an MSLT will give me time on a medication before Limdu / MEB / PEB is started, or will I be put on a MEB immediately once i am diagnosed, while trying different medications to stabilize treatment. Thanks in advance.

So I got diagnosed with Narcolepsy T2 back in December of 2025, and as soon as my doctor saw it (he didn't even notice until I asked for help getting some of the medications approved by insurance), he said I needed a medboard. I'm not exactly sure what instruction it was, but he showed me in plain black and white that Narcolepsy with or without cataplexy will not allow you to be retained for military service. Right now, I am mainly just waiting on the board's determination and VA ratings, but both my lawyer and PEBLO expect me to either be medically retired or separated. It's not a common diagnosis, though, so nobody I'm working with during this process can really give me an accurate expectation since they have never really dealt with it before. Take this time to track down your medical records from every referral you have gotten by any civilian provider, and submit them to your military medical records clinic. Make sure you keep extra copies for yourself as well. Good luck!

Thank you. Your user handle explains everything lol. If you dont mind could you give me snapshot of your timeline so far? Ie:

Nov 15: MSLT
1 Dec: Met with PCM to go over results
15 Dec: Put on Limited duty pending MEB
20 Dec: Sent to PEB:
1 Jan 26: Pending... etc

I only ask, because i am curious how fast they move for a condition that is non-keepable vs a condition that could potentially allow you to be retained. Thanks!

Absolutely, and as some amplifying info, I wasn't and am still not on LIMDU status oddly enough. I still PT with my command and work normally, but I'm also on Instructor duty. The limitations are, no ship duty, deployments, watch standing, operating heavy machinery. Your case may be different though. Additionally, my attorney and PEBLO say I have a high likelyhood of being separated/retired, but they really arent sure. Anyways here's my timeline:

-12/09/26 Narcolepsy diagnosis (After MSLT)
-01/09/26 Referred to MEB
-1/12/26 Initial IDES email
-01/22/26 Legal Brief
-01/23/26 lawyer assigned
-01/29/26 PEBLO first contact
-02/23/26 first C&P exam appointment
-02/26/26 NMA signed
-03/18/26 last C&P exam
-03/24/26 C&P exams uploaded to VA system
-03/26/26 NARSUM signed (by myself and convening authority)
-now currently awaiting PEB decision and VA ratings

Usually, they’ll put you on Limited Duty (Limdu) first to see if the meds help stabilize everything. An MEB usually isn't immediate right after the MSLT; they generally give you some time to work through a treatment plan before starting the formal board process.

Yeah I'm Navy, and I'm sure its probably different for everyone. I'd assume it would be different even if I were at a different command.

Likely true, in my case though I wasn't put on LIMDU at all. I just went straight to medboard referal even before I had the chance to do any sort of treatment.
