I dont even know where else to ask but i got out with 100% p&t rating and went to my first doctors appointment to establish care, im naturally a shy and timid person with a lot of anxiety. AT first it wasnt bad the doctor prescribed me some medicine and then we went to another room where he had be touch my toes which i couldn't do because of my back pain, he then laid me down on the table and had me try to touch his band with my shoe which i also was not able to do and stated that it hurts me lifting up my leg that way. He then proceeded to yank on my knee back and forth pushing my leg in the to my stomach, i was visibly in pain and he kept on saying in a LOUD tone that he has other patients who jumped out of planes that aren't even this hurt and he kept saying "THEY REALLY MESSED YOU UP HUH!" in a very condescending and loud tone. I obviously didn't challenge him because like i said im a timid and anxious person. What should i do here? report it or switch my provider? i really did not expect such a thing from my first vist

I’ve heard similar stories from other veterans dealing with the VA, and it's important to remember that you’re not alone in this. Your symptoms and struggles are just as valid as anyone else's, no matter how your injuries happened. One thing you might want to consider is looking into other doctors within the VA system or even external specialists if you feel like you're not being heard.

You might also want to check out some resources at https://gpratings.uk, which offer guidance on navigating your benefits and healthcare in a way that feels empowering.

I have found the VA's Patient Advocates to be less than helpful unless you need a band aid fix. PA's are not there for system changes that benefit the veterans getting caught in the cracks. Our VAMC is highly rated and yet I have 3 bulging disks and spinal stenosis that is causing falls (radiating pain in my quads that feel like electric shock causing my knee to give out) and they ignored that and put me in PT for my KNEE. This caused a major flair up, more falls and pain and an ER visit. In March I had a Xray flagged "Urgent: Significant Abnormality" and was never contacted about it and filed an OIG complaint. A month ago I had a lumbar MRI also flagged "Urgent: Significant Abnormality" and despite contacting the PA's still nobody has contacted me about the results or any treatment plan. I elevated the complaints to VISN level and BCC'd the National Patient Safety Center, Joint Commission, and my congress critter. It doesn't matter, they just kicked it back to the VAMC to investigate themselves and we all know that they will find no wrongdoing and vindicate themselves. Veterans First is an empty motto of the VA and should be changed to "Giving Vets Another Chance to Die for Their Country".
