AFBCMR changed discharge to "secretarial authority"?

All of those things happened in my case. And would you believe my luck, the only reason I was able to prove my case was because whoever was altering and destroying my records missed the ones where an admin misspelled my last name. I like to believe that person did it on purpose. There were some...

AFBCMR changed discharge to "secretarial authority"?

This doesn't quite make sense. If you get injured your very first day at boot and get medically discharged because of that injury, VA claims covers that injury. You are covered from day 1. A JFF isn't going to stop you from reenlisting. The 3G is the bigger problem. It should be a waiverable...

AFBCMR changed discharge to "secretarial authority"?

If you had to leave due to a medical issue, then at the least you should have been medically discharged. In that case, JFF isn't really right. Although technically, if you are attempting to reenlist a medical might make that more difficult. Have you been through the VA claims system?

AFBCMR changed discharge to "secretarial authority"?

Do you feel that the JFF code fits your situation? Just asking, because that was how they handled my first case. I kept at it though, because it didn't fit for me, and I ended up getting it upgraded to a medical retirement. I'm hearing that JFF is mostly what they are upgrading people with who...

AFBCMR changed discharge to "secretarial authority"?

5 years and 3 cases through the AFBCMR and it happened. You were absolutely correct. It just took time and patience. I don't even know if you'll see this. But thank you for your support.

AFBCMR changed discharge to "secretarial authority"?

It took me a while to remember my password here. It's been a long wait. But finally, I have answers. My case was granted. April 20 I was notified that I'm being upgraded to a 50% medical retirement. They said nothing about my request for a characterization to honorable, so I'll be waiting for...

AFBCMR changed discharge to "secretarial authority"?

Thanks for posting the Army info pittpan, it may have gotten me where I needed to go. If only I'd seen it sooner. I did just find the e-mail for the USAF board though, finally. This is the contact info. ** For questions about the AFBCMR process, please call the Case Management Office at...

    BCMR Case Complete

This is excellent news. Congratulations! You filed the same month/year I did as well, with a similar timeline. I was given a "technically honorable" as they put it admin discharge for personality disorder, but while in the service I was diagnosed with asd (which is the first stage of ptsd. I...

AFBCMR changed discharge to "secretarial authority"?

I'm still waiting for any kind of feedback from the board on my appeal. It's been 5 months. I hope it's safe to assume that they've decided to at least look at my case. If they'd denied it outright I think I would have heard something by now. But we all know about assumptions... Does anyone...

AFBCMR changed discharge to "secretarial authority"?

Sorry I missed your post until just now Gertz2727 It is a huge deal to get upgraded to Secretarial Authority. It's very very rare to even get that much. And I do feel grateful to have gotten that much done. But it also is a cop out by them. Your TBI and my PTSD & TBI should have both gone...

AFBCMR changed discharge to "secretarial authority"?

Thought I'd post an update as it's been a while. In July I received my new DD214 and another notice that my case had been forwarded to DFAS for review. I tried contacting DFAS but even after 3-4 months they still had no further info for me. I do believe that "Secretarial Authority" just means...

AFBCMR changed discharge to "secretarial authority"?

That is definitely what happened, in a nutshell. Thank you for so clearly writing that up and the link to the new directives. If I need to fight this, and I just bet I do, I'll have a place to start now. Since they didn't tell me where my case is going next, I will have to wait until the DFAS...

AFBCMR changed discharge to "secretarial authority"?

Thank you for finding that info gsfowler. I wish the AFBCMR reading room was up so that I could research secretarial authority more in depth. I believe it could go either way. The problem is that I don't believe it's possible to get a military medical discharge for ASD. The military is supposed...

AFBCMR changed discharge to "secretarial authority"?

I applied to the AFBCMR Jan15 asking for them to change my discharge reason of Personality Disorder. My in-service diagnosis was Acute Stress Disorder, but my command gave me a quick and dirty involuntary Personality Disorder discharge (I did not have any PD diagnosis) just days after I got out...
