Good morning all,
I submitted another question in another forum that I'll probably slip into this one as well, but my question for this board is, who all has experience with these two diagnosis and a med board for them? How are they typically rated? Are they usually fit or unfit for duty?
Also, for the NonMedical Assessment...How much weight does that really carry? Does my "yes or no" answer really help them gauge my fitness or lack thereof for duty? Does my chief's inputs have any impact?

Sorry for all the questions, this is all so new to me and I'm definitely struggling.
(Navy, Active duty, E-5)

Bipolar disorder is disqualifying for further military service.

If you agree with the doctors diagnosis, there is little the command can do through the NMA or your answers to affect the outcome.

The percentages will be determined by the VA DBQ form. It will assess how serious the condition is based on certain criteria for each percentage.

Obviously the worse it is, the higher the percentage.

Bipolar II and GAD will receive on rating. The rating is based on the level of social or occupational impairment.

Thank you @chaplaincharlie !
I hope they rate it fairly. Seems to my I would be rated around 50 or higher based on the way I am impacted daily. Though I guess they will determine that themselves.

@emstevens93 I just went through the MEB for Bipolar II with Social Phobia and I was rated 70% with most of my symptoms/impairment stemming from the Social phobia. The QTC evaluator noted that he believed my BP II can be mildly stabilized with continuous medication but my social phobia will always cause moderate to constant impairment.

I think most examiners do their best to rate things fairly. I recommend being honest with the rater. If he ask how you are feeling and you feel great that day, say I feel great today, but most of this week I've been ___________. It will be okay. Raters know the difference between affect and mood. Best wishes for a successful outcome! Mike

Thanks so much, all of you.
Today I received an email from a woman working with the Navy and Marine attorneys at Walter Reed. She said I was referred by the medical board for counseling. She says the brief is tomorrow morning, mandatory to attend, and that it covers a variety of disability options and such. Is this a sign of them pushing my case along a little faster, or is this just normal protocol? I wish I'd gotten a tad bit more notice than 24hrs, but oh well.
