My PEBLO got my results and was kind enough to give me the ratings over the phone since I'm home on emergency leave. I'm flying back this weekend and will be signing next Tuesday.
I have been rated at 50% Air Force and 80% VA. I can't be happier.
My PEBLO was saying something about getting retirement and VA pay. I thought you could only get one or the other? Any insight?
Dear Ammomama:
If under 20 years AD service, or under 7200 NG/Reserve points, you get one or the other.
HOWEVER, if your 50% DoD retirement is higher than your 80% VA compensation, then you will get all your 80% VA, plus you will get whatever is left over on your DoD retirement after subtracting the gross VA from your gross DoD.
That's what is happening in my case. Even though my DoD PDRL percentage was of a lower percentage than my VA percentage, my pre-tax DoD PDRL was still of a greater gross amount than my VA. So I receive all my VA, but also get a wee bit amount from my DoD retirement.
Also, some SMs qualify for CRSC. Don't know what your situation is on this issue, but this might also be what your PEBLO may be referring to.
So do your math on your 50% DoD and see if it is greater than your 80% VA.
Hope things are going OK on your EML situation.
